Toy Story 4’s alternative ending has been revealed, with a completely different outcome for the characters Woody and Bo Peep.

In the final cut of the sequel shown in cinemas, fans came away with the mantra that “life without a kid is better for a toy” when Woody made the decision to leave behind his longtime companions in Bonnie’s room, choosing instead to live without an owner on the road with the love of his life, Bo Peep.

However, as one of the bonus features on Toy Story 4’s upcoming DVD release shows, there was an alternative ending which would have changed the entire conclusion of the movie and potentially the fate of the franchise.

In the alternative ending, Bo Peep decides that “the girl from the store” – who could be Harmony, the kid Gabby Gabby spent much of the movie chasing — is actually “the one” for her.

Bo Peep tells Woody: “She’s the one. The girl from the store. She’s the one. I feel a connection again Woody, like I’m supposed to be her toy.”

To which Woody replies: “Molly, Andy, Bonnie – all these kids – we’re there for them, we belong to them, but I want you to know I’m yours and I always will be.”

Afterwards, the pair share an emotional goodbye, and that’s that.

The alternative ending seems especially bizarre given that Bo Peep and Harmony hardly interact throughout the film, and it begs the question: what would Bo Peep's decision have meant for the future of Woody and the franchise itself?

Toy Story 4 will be released on DVD in the UK on 21 October
