Tracy Morgan gave an interview about how his family is coping with the coronavirus pandemic on the Today show, which was branded "awkward" and "bizarre" by some viewers.

Morgan was interviewed by Hoda Kotb during a remote segment on Tuesday morning.

“Tell me about what life is like being at home for Tracy and his family,” Kotb asked the comedian.

Morgan answered: “Oh well, me and my wife have been quarantined for three weeks so she’s pregnant three times. Every week, she got pregnant.”

Kotb chuckled before Morgan went on: “And we’re also role-playing a lot now.

“She plays the young maiden whose grandfather was infected with coronavirus and I’m the scientist who discovered the cure and she’ll do anything to save her grandfather’s life.”

In response, Kotb called Morgan “a creative one” and eventually discussed other aspects of the pandemic.

“People want to criticise the president, but imagine being the president of a country and half your country got sick. So it’s difficult for him,” Morgan said.

“We’ve all got to pull together as people now.”

Some viewers deemed the segment “awkward”, “bizarre”, “cringe-inducing” and “hard to watch”.

Others enjoyed it and praised the comedian's sense of humour, as well as his decision to pay tribute to medical professionals and first responders during the interview.
