Traffic police have slammed a motorist for trying to drive with a severely smashed windscreen.

Officers in Stoke-on-Trent pulled the driver over and impounded the Volkswagen car.

And they also took to social media to express their astonishment on the man’s attempts to drive with the severely damaged car.

‘We’ve just stopped this vehicle in @Policingstoke he didn’t think it was too much of a problem,’ the Central Motorway Police Group said on Twitter.

‘Vehicle prohibited from being driven any further, driver reported. Nope still can’t believe it.’

Several Twitter users replied to the post by asking what the male driver had hit, while another joked that the man should have removed the screen and worn goggles.

The tweet was accompanied two pictures of the damaged screen described the late-night incident as beyond belief.

Around four hours after the incident, the CMPG made further reference to the unusual stop after dealing with another errant driver.

But it was not the driver’s only offence.

Police also revealed that the driver should not have been on the road in the first place.

An officer tweeted: ‘Vehicle stopped in the @Policingstoke area driver had no licence or insurance, (but it did have a intact windscreen). Car seized and driver reported.’

Last year, a motorist in Essex was stopped by police and charged with careless driving after travelling with just a tiny gap on a snow-covered windscreen.

The gap took up less than half the windscreen after the driver only wiped their half of the car.

The incident happened in the same town where last Christmas Day a taxi driver was left traumatised when his car windscreen was smashed by attackers with a scaffolding pole.
