Tragedy as 20-year-old killed in crash as coward driver and 3 passengers run away

A 20-year-old man has been killed in a car crash in which a driver and their passengers ran from the scene of the tragedy.

South Yorkshire Police are investigating after the two-car crash in Morthen Road, Wickersley, at 4.08pm on Sunday, June 2. It involved a silver Land Rover Discovery and a silver Subaru Forester.

The passenger of the Land Rover, who was just 20 years old, died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru and three passengers fled. A 21-year-old driver has been arrested.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the Land Rover sadly died at the scene. His family has been informed and is being supported by officers.

"Following the collision, the driver and three passengers of the Subaru Forester fled from the scene on foot. A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

"We are now asking for any witnesses to the collision or any motorists in the area around the time of the incident with dashcam footage to come forward."
