Tragedy as boy, 16, dies after Audi veers off road and smashes into trees

A 16-year-old boy has died after an Audi he was in veered off the road and smashed into trees. Emergency services were scrambled to the collision on Chain Caul Way, Preston, on Tuesday night (September 10).

Police and paramedics attended the crash at around 10.55pm to reports that an Audi A3 sport, travelling towards Lea, had left the carriageway and collided with trees.

The driver, an 18-year-old man also suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital, Lancashire Police said. A 17-year-old boy, the front seat passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and is in a stable condition in hospital.

The rear seat passenger, the 16-year-old, was also rushed to hospital but later died after suffering serious injuries in the horror collision.

An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information or any witnesses are being urged to contact Lancashire Police immediately.

Sgt Paul McCurrie, of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “A young life has been lost, and at what must be an incredibly distressing time for them, my thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of the teenager who sadly died.

“We’re continuing to investigate the collision, and my thoughts also remain with the injured people and their loved ones.

“We wanted to bring you this update today, but are also continuing to ask for any witnesses, or people with dashcam footage of the Chain Caul Way area to please get in contact.”
