Tragedy as man, 44, dies after crash in Wootton

A 44-year-old man has tragically died following a crash in North Lincolnshire.

Emergency services were called to reports of a single-vehicle collision in Wootton at around 5.50am today (Friday, November 29).

It is reported that a grey Renault Clio travelling eastbound on the A1077 (Ulceby Road) collided with a tree on Wootton Road. The road was subsequently closed to motorists.

The man was sadly found to have died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Humberside Police confirmed that a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to "previous police contact". The force is also appealing for witnesses.

A spokesperson said: "Due to previous police contact a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information that may help officers with their ongoing enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 58 of 29 November."
