Tragedy as man dies at Erdington builder's yard after incident with forklift truck
A man has died after an incident at a Birmingham builder's yard involving a forklift truck. Emergency services were called to the yard in Station Road, Erdington, close to Summer Road and Short Heath Road, shortly after 10am on Tuesday (September 17).
The ambulance service sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene. A man in his 50s was said to have become trapped under a forklift truck.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an industrial incident on Station Road at 10.11am on Tuesday (September 17), two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police confirmed its attended the incident and is investigating what happened. A spokeswoman for the force said: “We were called to reports of a man trapped under a forklift truck at a premises on Station Road, Erdington at around 10.14am this morning (September 17).
“A man believed to be his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
BirminghamLive contacted the Health and Safety Executive but the workplace health and safety regulator said: “We are not involved. These premises are regulated by the local authority.” Birmingham City Council has now been contacted for a statement.
