Tragedy as man dies falling from bridge after police shut main road

A man has tragically died after falling from a bridge. Earlier this afternoon, police closed the A5156 Llan-y-Pwll link road near Wrexham, following concerns for the safety of a man.

Specialist negotiators were brought in, but the man fell, North Wales Police said. And despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A North Wales Police statement said: "Shortly after 3:30pm today (Saturday, 1st June) police were called following concerns for the safety of a man who was on the bridge on the A5156 Llan-y-Pwll link road near Wrexham. Officers attended and the road was closed in both directions.

"Specialist police negotiators attended however the man fell from the bridge. Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and the A5156 remains closed at this time. Due to the nature of the incident, North Wales Police have informed the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct).

"The man’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed."
