Yahoo News Tragedy as man found dead near Southport railway station as police shut line and trains cancelled
A man has been found dead near a railway station.
The tragic incident on the tracks this morning has led to widespread disruption with lines closed as a result. British Transport Police (BTP) said they were called to Southport shortly before 9am today (November 23) following reports of a 'casualty on the tracks'.
Paramedics also attended police confirmed a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Services between Southport and Wigan Wallgate were cancelled as emergency services dealt with the incident and police blocked off a section of Sussex Road.

The force said enquiries were ongoing 'to establish the circumstances leading up to their death', with no further details revealed. National Rail said on Saturday afternoon all lines were now open again, although delays to services remain.
One eyewitness saw three police vans rushing to the scene, with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also attending. The witness also confirmed North West Ambulance Service is currently in attendance.
In a statement, BTP told the ECHO: "Officers were called to the area near Southport railway station just before 9.00am today (23 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to their death."
No further information has been revealed and no age or name for the man has been confirmed. A Northern Rail spokesperson confirmed trains have been cancelled between Southport and Wigan Wallgate.
The operator said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Southport and Wigan Wallgate the line is blocked. Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled.
"Emergency services are at the location. Customers at Southport can use Merseyrail services."
Merseyrail confirmed services between Southport and Liverpool Central are running as usual following an earlier cancelled service due to a train fault.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called to Southport Railway Club on Sussex Road this morning to assist Merseyside Police. Two fire engines arrived on scene at 9.57am and on arrival it was deemed that no fire service action was required. The crews left the scene at 10.07am."
