A customer has died at Stoke-on-Trent's main shopping centre. The shopper was pronounced dead at The Potteries Centre, in Hanley, after earlier being taken ill.

Police and paramedics cordoned off part of Town Road as part of the emergency response. The cordon was in place at around 1pm today.

A Potteries Centre spokesman said: “We are very sorry to say that a customer became unwell at The Potteries Centre today. The on-site team responded immediately and paramedics were called and attended very quickly. But despite our team and the medical team’s best efforts the lady passed away. Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends at this time.”
