Tragedy as two men die after motorbike crash in County Durham

Two men have died following a crash in Rushyford, County Durham shortly before midday on Friday.

The pair are thought to have been travelling on the same motorcycle at the time of the incident. Emergency services were called to reports of collision on Middridge Road, near to the Rushyford roundabout, shortly before noon on July 5.

One of the males was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second died later in hospital. No-one further is thought to have been injured.

The victims' families have been informed and are now being supported by specialist police officers. The incident saw Middridge Road and part of the A689 closed during Friday afternoon, with the roads reopening in the evening.

Durham Constabulary has now issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage of what happened to come forward.
