Tragedy as two people die and two others in hospital after crash on Chillingham Road
Two people have tragically died after a Mercedes crashed into a wall in Heaton.
Two men, aged 30 and 26, were found to have sustained serious injuries after a Mercedes 250AMG collided with a wall on Chillingham Road. Despite the best efforts of medics, they were pronounced dead a short time later.
Two women, both aged 19, were also taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. They remain in hospital at this time.
The next of kin for both men have been informed of their deaths, and are being supported by specially-trained police officers. Northumbria Police are now asking for anyone who may have information regarding the collision to contact them.
Sergeant Andy Ferguson, of Northumbria Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: "This is an incredibly sad incident and our thoughts are firmly with the families and loved-ones of the two people who have tragically died. We have specially-trained officers supporting them and will assist in any way we can."
Sergeant Ferguson confirmed that an investigation into the collision has been launched and appealed to the public to get in touch. He added: "We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the moments leading up to the collision or those with dashcam footage.
"Your information could be vital in helping us ascertain exactly what took place so please contact us."
