Tragedy as two teenagers killed in Staffordshire crash

Two teenagers have been killed in a fatal crash in Staffordshire. And two 17-year-old female patients are in hospital with 'serious injuries' following the smash on Cannock Road near Penkridge.

Paramedics and police were called to the scene just before midnight last night (May 25) to reports of a smash involving a Ford Ka. Today collision investigators have confirmed that despite the best efforts of the emergency services an 18-year-old male, the driver, and a front-seat passenger, a 17-year-male, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile two 17-year-old female passengers were taken to hospital with what the force has described as 'serious injuries'. StokeonTrentLive reported how the stretch between Penkridge and Cannock was closed off in both directions for a number of hours.

Now police are appealing for witnesses while the families of those involved in the 'tragic incident' are being supported by specialist officers. Sergeant Richard Moors of the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit (CIU), said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the young people who have tragically lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries.

"Specialist officers are supporting their families at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected. A full and detailed investigation is now under way to establish the cause of the collision."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the car prior to the crash should call Staffordshire Police on 101 and quote incident 813 of May 25. Alternatively e-mail ciu@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk.
