Loughborough Junction: Three men in their 20s found dead on London train tracks in 'unexplained' incident

Three men have died after being hit by a train at Loughborough Junction in south London, British Transport Police have said.

Officers were called to the station at 7.30am after receiving reports of multiple bodies being found. However, police believe they were hit by a train much earlier this morning.

Paramedics pronounced the men dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said all three were in their 20s and that “their injuries were consistent with being hit by a train”.

Investigations are now being carried out to understand how they came to be on the tracks, and to identify the bodies.

The spokesperson said that “officers have now delivered the sad news to one family”, however they are still trying to find the next of kin for the other two men.

It is believed spray cans were found near the bodies. However, police were unable to confirm or deny these reports, saying it is “far to early for us to comment on the reason for [the men] being there”.

Aerial footage showed the covered bodies lying on the tracks away from the platform.

Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson, from British Transport Police, said: “My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their lives on the railway.

“My thoughts are with their families and friends.

“At this time we are treating their deaths as unexplained as we make a number of immediate enquiries. I would ask anyone who was near to Loughborough Junction this morning, and saw something which they think might be relevant, please contact us as soon as possible.”

Train services are expected to be delayed while the investigation is ongoing. However, Network Rail confirmed that Loughborough Junction has remained open all morning and that two out of the four lines operating at the station are still running.
