A passenger train has come off the tracks in London in the second derailment at a major station in just a week.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said the “partial low speed derailment” put two platforms temporarily out of use in Paddington on Sunday but did not cause major delays.

No one was injured when the rear power car of a service heading towards Cornwall partly left the track.

“Passengers have safely transferred to another train after the rear power car of the 11.57am Paddington to Penzance became partially derailed as it was leaving Paddington Station today,” a spokesperson added.

“The train was travelling at extremely low speed and no injuries were reported.”

Network Rail said its engineers were working to reopen the platforms and that an investigation would establish what happened.

It came just days after another derailment near Waterloo, where there was major disruption after a train hit a barrier train protecting track workers on Tuesday.

Later the same day, another train crashed into buffers as it arrived at King's Cross.

There have also been two incidents on the London Underground in the past fortnight, causing major evacuations at Oxford Circus and Holborn stations.

Investigators said an electrical fault caused a small fire on a Bakerloo Line train at Oxford Circus on 11 August, while an overheated compressor on another Tube train at Holborn caused a loud bang and smoke on Tuesday.
