Ashley Down train station is set to open its rails to passengers this Saturday (September 28) which will offer matchgoing supporters of both football matches at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium and cricket fixtures at Gloucestershire's Seat Unique Stadium an improved option for travel via rail.

Both clubs are playing host to sporting events this weekend with Rovers hosting Wycombe Wanderers in League One on Saturday while the Seat Unique Stadium is the venue for the England vs Australia ODI on Sunday (September 29).

The new station is situated less than a mile's walk from both stadiums and is also a short distance from Gloucester Road making it an ideal option for supporters located elsewhere or outside of the city.

For Gas supporters, Filton Abbey Wood had been the nearest option but is still over a half-hour walk from the Mem while it is even further for cricket attendees.

According to the Great Western Railway website, an hourly service is set to run on Saturday from Bristol Temple Meads with the journey expected to take around eight minutes. The service will continue to run once an hour after the Wycombe match, set to kick-off at 3pm until 8:55pm. Supporters attending the cricket on Sunday are advised that Great Western Railway will be running a reduced service.

Rovers are also at home next Tuesday evening (October 1) against Charlton Athletic with the latest train back to Bristol Temple Meads set to depart at 10:16pm with the final whistle expected to blow around 9:45pm.
