All trains from Plymouth to Cornwall and London are cancelled

All trains from London to Devon and Cornwall have been cancelled as Storm Bert continues to bring flooding to the West Country. All GWR services between Paddington and Penzance - including to and from Plymouth - have been stopped, with no replacement buses or any other form of transport available - and people are advised not to even attempt to travel.

As the South West is hit with continuous rain, flooding has been reported in numerous locations meaning Network Rail stepped in to close the track from Reading to Plymouth.

GWR bosses said they now can’t guarantee that travellers will be able to get home as the storm continues to rage over the two counties. The disruption meant no trains from the capital to Plymouth and Exeter are running throughout the rest of today.

A GWR spokesperson said: “Due to heavy rain flooding the railway disruption is expected until the end of the day. Train services between London Paddington and Penzance via Exeter St Davids and Plymouth will be cancelled.”

“We're sorry for the disruption to your journey today. Flooding, caused by heavy rain, has meant Network Rail have had to close the line in several places between Reading and Plymouth.

“Flood monitoring suggests that further sites along the railway are likely to flood and we cannot guarantee an alternative route for our services between London and the West of England, in either direction.”

This meant that train services would not run between London Paddington and Penzance for the rest of today and the GWR spokesperson said: “We are unable to offer alternative transport and cannot guarantee we will be able to get you to your destination. You are advised not to attempt to travel along this route today.”

Tickets for today will be accepted tomorrow (Monday, November 25) and on Tuesday (November 26). If people no longer wish to travel, they can claim a full refund at gwr.com/refunds.
