The Traitors host Alan Cumming ends RuPaul’s eight-year Emmy winning streak
The Traitors’ Alan Cumming has snatched the Emmy crown from RuPaul, putting an end to the drag powerhouse’s eight-year reign. At the award ceremony on Saturday, September 7, the Scottish bicon earned the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program accolade, marking the first time since 2015 that the category wasn’t won by Mama Ru.
An established actor and producer, Cumming has demonstrated his presenting talents in recent years through his role on the US version of The Traitors. The show aired a highly successful second season in 2024, with the 59-year-old at the centre of the ultimate murder mystery game.

While Cumming couldn’t attend the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy ceremony in Los Angeles, he shared a post on Instagram reading: “I hope writing my thanks down here – and not spouting them in a frenzy of fear at having the dreaded music cut me off on live TV – will make them feel more sincere and heartfelt to those I am truly indebted to.”
He thanked everyone at Studio Lambert, Peacock and NBC Universal, as well as his publicists, agents and stylist Sam Spector who makes him “look so insanely spiffy, and whose work is such a huge part of the show’s success”.
He continued: “Thank you to all the Traitors crew up at Ardross castle who keep smiling despite the long hours and the Scottish weather, and sweet baby jesus, how could I forget the amazing cast who were so fun to play with.
“Finally thank you forever to Grant Shaffer,” Cumming said of his husband, “who supports and loves me in everything I do and will always receive the most votes in my castle.”
