Transfer Gossip: Liverpool to pull off £44m transfer coup to re-energise Klopp engine room; Tottenham to bid £26.5m for box-to-box midfielder
Liverpool are looking to land a transformative midfielder who could be available for as little as £44million this summer, while Tottenham are chasing a LaLiga midfield star who would provide much-needed energy to their engine room – all in Sunday’s Transfer Gossip.
KLOPP WANTS LAZIO MAN TO HEADLINE MIDFIELD REVAMP
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly ramped up his efforts to bring highly-rated Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Anfield this summer.
CMW reports that the Reds boss wants the Serbian to headline Liverpool’s expected midfield revamp, with at least two new additions to Klopp’s engine room expected.
The report adds that Lazio are willing to listen to offers of around €50 million (£44 million) for the 28-year-old.
Milinkovic-Savic, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, could make an immediate impact on Merseyside with his dynamism and all-round game.
The Serbia international is in his prime and has a wealth of experience, having played over 300 times for the Italian outfit while also winning 39 caps for his country.
Milinkovic-Savic dubbed best midfielder in the world
He is also regarded as one of the top midfielders in world football, that’s according to Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who would say that anyway to drive up the player’s price.
Lotito told Il Messaggero in November 2022, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano: “Guess how much he’s worth – he scored a goal at the World Cup with his ankle injured, and he’s the best midfielder in the world.”
However, Calcio adds that if the Reds are to get their man they face a battle for his signature.
Arsenal are strongly rumoured to be leading the chase for Milinkovic-Savic and are virtually guaranteed Champions League football next season. In fact, a top-four finish for the Reds could be the difference between bringing in the Lazio man or having to turn to lesser alternatives.
SPURS TURN TO ATLETICO FOR MIDFIELD BOOST
Tottenham are being tipped to turn to LaLiga in their search for a dynamic box-to-box midfielder who could transform their engine room this summer.
Spurs’ current midfield is one-paced and defensive-minded without the presence of long-term injured star Rodrigo Bentancur.
However, that could all change next season – whoever is in charge of the team – if an Atletico Madrid star arrives in north London.
Calciomercato claims that Tottenham are chasing Argentine Rodrigo De Paul in what could be a summer transfer coup.
The Italian news outlet reports that sporting director Fabio Paratici is a big admirer of the Argentina World Cup winner and is ready to make a €30million (£26.5 million) bid for the player.
However, Spurs are not the only club keen on De Paul. The report adds that Inter Milan and Juventus are also keen on the £94,000-a-week star, who was previously branded ‘extraordinary’ by former Udinese boss Julio Velazquez.
De Paul would provide Tottenham’s midfield with more energy and purpose if he does sign.
The 28-year-old has made 19 appearances for Atletico this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
EVERTON HANDED ABRAHAM BID LIFT
Everton have been strongly tipped to make a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer and their chances may have taken a big leap forward following the latest update on the player’s future.
The Toffees, along with Manchester United and Aston Villa, have been linked with a move for the England man.
And now reports on Sunday suggest that his asking price has been dropped from £66million to just £35m after a difficult second season in Italy.
The former Chelsea’s forward performances have dipped alarmingly under Jose Mourinho. Indeed, having scored 27 goals in 53 games last season, Abraham has notched just seven times in 37 outings this time around.
And while those stats suggest a big drop off, the fact that Abraham has scored goals at Premier League level still makes him an attractive proposition.
Toffees boss Sean Dyche is said to view Abraham as a replacement for the injury-prone Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who’s future on Merseyside is growing increasingly doubtful.
