Transfer news LIVE! Ronaldo, Kane latest; Odegaard to Arsenal; Chelsea FC, Tottenham, Man Utd rumours today

Transfer news LIVE!

The Harry Kane saga rumbles on with the striker not involved in Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Manchester City... and the England captain is reportedly hoping that the champions step up their bid to sign him this week. But on Tuesday, he did rejoin the first-team squad for training for the first time this season.

In one of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window - and any transfer window, come to think of it - Lionel Messi been officially unveiled as a PSG player after Barcelona were unable to afford a new contract. There is also mounting speculation that Paul Pogba could be headed to join him - but one megastar who won’t be on the move, it seems, is Cristiano Ronaldo - Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out a Real Madrid return for the Juventus star.

In another huge deal, Chelsea have re-signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for £97.5m, with Tammy Abraham joining AS Roma. As for Manchester United, they unveiled Raphael Varane before Saturday’s 5-1 rout of Leeds, while £73m Jadon Sancho made his debut off the bench. Next on their list could be Erling Haaland, but they may have to wait until next summer to sign the Dortmund sensation.

Arsenal have made one big move in £50m Ben White, and want another in the former of Martin Odegaard, with an agreement for the Real Madrid playmaker close. They continue to be linked with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as well as Inter Milan frontman Lautaro Martinez, though Manuel Locatelli is heading to Juventus.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been offered Barcelona’s Ilaix Moriba as they also eye Atletico Madrid stalwart Saul Niguez, while Tottenham are being linked with Pau Torres and Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as well as Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic and Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez, while new reports say they are rivalling West Ham for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma.

Juve snap up Jorge

Juventus have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Kaio Jorge from Santos.

Kaio Jorge signed a deal until 2026 with the Turin club on Tuesday, two weeks after Santos said Juventus had agreed terms to sign the 19-year-old.

"I am very happy to be here ... It's a big club, one of the biggest in Europe, and it's always been my dream to play for Juve," he said.

Italian media reported Juventus would pay up to €4 million for the player.

Kaio Jorge broke into the Santos first team aged 16, becoming their sixth-youngest league debutant when he made his professional bow in September 2018.

Harry Kane latest updates

00:00 , George Flood

A fresh batch of Harry Kane stories doing the rounds tonight.

According to the Daily Mail, the England captain feels chairman Daniel Levy has broken a promise by not allowing him to leave Tottenham for Manchester City this summer after Spurs failed to win a trophy or finish in the top four last season.

Kane is reportedly concerned that Levy isn’t engaging in City’s latest attempts to start talks over what would be a British record transfer, with the reigning champions believed to have offered £125m with the August 31 deadline edging closer.

It is now being said that Kane is unlikely to travel to Portugal for Thursday’s Uefa Europa Conference League play-off fixture against Pacos de Ferreira.

The Athletic report that the fee is set to be around €35m (£29.8m).

Angry Ronaldo breaks silence amid Real Madrid return links

20:20 , George Flood

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence amid constant speculation over a move away from Juventus with a strong statement on Instagram.

It had been publicly confirmed earlier by Carlo Ancelotti anyway, but he insists there will be no return to Real Madrid...

“Anyone who knows me is aware of how focused I am on my work. Less talk and more action, this has been my guiding motto since the start of my career. However, in view of everything that’s been said and written recently, I have to set out my position,” Ronaldo wrote.

“More than the disrespect for me as a man and as a player, the frivolous way that my future is covered in the media is disrespectful to all the clubs involved in these rumours, as well as to their players and staff.

“My story at Real Madrid has been written. It’s been recorded. In words and numbers, in trophies and titles, in records and in headlines. It’s in the Museum at the Bernabeu Stadium and it’s also in the minds of every fan of the club.

“And beyond what I achieved, I remember that in those nine years I had a relationship of deep affection and respect for “merengue afición”, an affection and respect that I retain to this day, and that I will always cherish. I know that the true Real Madrid fans will continue to have me in their hearts, and I will have them in mine.

“As well as this most recent episode in Spain, there have been frequent news and stories associating me with a number of clubs in many different Leagues, with nobody ever being concerned about trying to find out the actual truth.

“I’m breaking my silence now to say that I can’t allow people to keep playing around with my name. I remain focused on my career and in my work, committed and prepared for all the challenges that I have to face. Everything else? Everything else is just talk.”

Liverpool, Arsenal eye Barca starlet Moriba

19:22 , George Flood

Barcelona’s well-documented financial difficulties could lead to an opportunity for Liverpool it seems.

Reports from Spain suggest that the Reds have been offered the chance to sign exciting La Masia graduate Ilaix Moriba.

However, it has since been claimed that there are 12 teams actively trying to sign the 18-year-old Guinea-born Spanish midfielder, who has made several appearances for Barca’s first team.

Arsenal are among the other clubs to be mentioned in connection with Moriba.

Juventus agree Locatelli deal

18:34 , George Flood

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Euro 2020 winner Manuel Locatelli now look to be firmly over.

According to Goal, Juventus have reached an agreement with Serie A rivals Sassuolo to take the highly-rated Italy midfielder to Turin.

Juve will reportedly sign Locatelli on an initial €5m loan deal that includes an obligation to buy for a fee of €30m next summer.

Tottenham enter Zouma race

18:04 , George Flood

Earlier today we brought you the news that West Ham were not giving up on their pursuit of Kurt Zouma with Chelsea willing to sell the defender for around £25m, but that his wage demands in excess of £100,000-a-week were proving a stumbling block.

Now Sky Sports claim that Tottenham are also interested in Zouma as they seek further defensive reinforcements following the arrival of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

Spurs have been linked with a whole host of centre-backs over recent weeks and days, including the likes of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, Pau Torres of Villarreal and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, among countless others.

Chelsea could reportedly yet use Zouma as part of their bid to land Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, meanwhile...

Ramsdale to Arsenal latest

17:39 , George Flood

Asked if Ramsdale wanted to stay at Bramall Lane, Jokanovic said: “Naturally he wants to be a Premier League player.

“I am talking with him, he believes it can be a good move for himself, but it is not a bad thing for him if he stays with us.

“He is a talented English player and I understand Arsenal are interested, but this is the business. If he is one of the best players in the league, his price is really high and in the end the decision can be with Arsenal if they want him or not. If they want him they need to spend a lot of money.

“If you ask me if I will sell for £100m I would say no. I have no interest in selling the guy but I understand the business side of the club and understand Aaron, too.

“But Aaron understands very well what I want. I explain to him a few times I am not a guy who wants to push him out of the club. If Arsenal want to spend £100m and my word is last I would still say no.

“This is it, but I must be prudent and show some responsibility about club business, too.”

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

The Serbian added: “I will be disappointed if he leaves the club but it’s part of the realistic situation.

“Arsenal is pushing from one side and I am pulling from a different side.

“This is part of the game. They have more tools than me right now. I cannot pay his contract with this transfer and I am always in a little bit of trouble with this kind of thing.

“Actually right now I am thinking about him as a Sheffield United player because he is a Sheffield United player and we need to recognise that interest exists. That’s it, we will see what happens.

“I will be more satisfied if this guy stays and be part of my team but if it doesn’t happen, I will wish him all the best. Everything will be in the future, but right now he is still our player.”

Jokanovic: Arsenal ‘pushing’ to sign Ramsdale

17:32 , George Flood

Speaking of Aaron Ramsdale, Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic fielded further questions over the goalkeeper’s future earlier this afternoon as he faced the media ahead of tomorrow night’s Championship trip to face West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Asked if the player would be leaving his boyhood club once again before the deadline, Jokanovic replied: “I don’t know.

“If you ask me if I want him to leave, then no. I am the Sheffield United coach, he’s a Sheffield United player now and it will depend on the club, it will depend on our club and it will depend also Arsenal, too.

“They are the principal club pushing for him. In this moment there does not exist any change, we will see what happens in the future.”

Arsenal back in Ramsdale talks

16:46 , George Flood

Arsenal have re-entered negotiations with Sheffield United over a deal for Aaron Ramsdale, according to the latest reports on Tuesday.

The Gunners had supposedly seen two bids rejected for the England goalkeeper earlier this summer before talks reached a stalemate with the two clubs miles apart in their respective valuations.

However, The Athletic now report that discussions are back on, with Sheffield United said to be willing to accept a lower-priced deal starting at around £24m.

Arsenal are searching for competition, cover and a potential future successor to current undisputed no1 Bernd Leno, who is out of contract in the summer of 2023.

Estonian teenager Karl Jakob Hein was on the bench for Friday’s Premier League opener at Brentford, with former loanee Mat Ryan now at Real Sociedad and Alex Runarsson not up to standard.

Speaking about Varane and fellow new signing Jadon Sancho, Martial told United’s website: "Varane, I know already, of course.

“And the skillset he has, I know he will bring a lot to our team, in addition to his long experience, so we are all really delighted with these two new players we have."

"He has all his experience, - he's a player who has won a lot during the time of his career at Real Madrid and also in the French national team, so I am sure he will bring all his powers, as he really is a top player and I know things are going to go well for him here at United."

Kane finally returns to full training with Spurs

Harry Kane’s future is no nearer being resolved but he did this morning train with the Tottenham first-team squad for the first time this season.

The striker’s return has been delayed by him having to quarantine after his holiday but all the talk has been whether he will still be at Tottenham or at Manchester City once the transfer window closes.

Rejoining the squad has opened up the possibility he could feature in Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off first leg against Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira or in Sunday’s visit to Wolves in the Premier League.

Atletico closing in on £60m Vlahovic

10:38 , Marco Giacomelli

Chances of Tottenham or Arsenal landing Dusan Vlahovic look slimmer this morning after Atletico Madrid offered Fiorentina £60m for the Serbia striker.

Il Corriere dello Sport have revealed the bid and say that it just needs the approval of Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso for Vlahovic to move to La Liga.

The paper claims Atletico have reached an agreement with the player’s agent.

Vlahovic hit 21 goals in Serie A last season, prompting interest from the north London rivals with the 21-year-old a possible replacement for Harry Kane at Spurs.

Time is right for Kane to go, says Zabaleta

10:07 , Marco Giacomelli

Harry Kane has done enough for Tottenham and should join Manchester City, says Pablo Zabaleta.

Given Zabaleta had nearly a decade at the Etihad, it’s no surprise he wants the move but the former right-back believes the time is right for Kane to leave his boyhood club.

Zabaleta told the PA news agency: "We’ll see if the money is there and will splash the money for Harry Kane but will be nice to see him playing for City.

"He’s in the right moment for him to go to a different club and have different experience, when you look at all the top teams they are looking for players who can score 25 goals a season, you always need players like that.

"Obviously Sergio (Aguero) left the club and they only have Gabriel Jesus as a proper striker but we all know the quality of Kane if you want to win trophies and (he) knows he’s done enough for Spurs and wants to move, maybe City are one of those clubs."

He says PSG are more concerned about keeping Kylian Mbappe, who is in the final year of his contract.

Pogba part of Solskjaer’s’s five-star push

09:22 , Marco Giacomelli

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to give new contracts to five of his stars — including Paul Pogba, reports The Sun.

The France World Cup winner is in the final season of his agreement and Solskjaer is keen to stop the 28-year-old leaving Old Trafford for a second time.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are also deserving of new deals, says Solskjaer.

Fernandes, who hit a hat-trick in the 5-1 rout of Leeds on Saturday, is on £100,000 a week but fresh terms could take that up to £300,000.

Premier eyes on QPR’s Dickie

09:10 , Marco Giacomelli

And the 25-year-old seems to have caught the eye of Premier League clubs with Burnley and Wolves said to be looking at him.

Dickie joined Rangers only a year ago from Oxford but shone in his debut season in the Championship, with both his team-mates and supporters giving him their Player of the Year titles.

Wages holding up West Ham’s move for Zouma

08:39 , Marco Giacomelli

There is work to be done if West Ham are to get Kurt Zouma with the Chelsea centre-back seeking more than £100,000 a week.

The Hammers were impressive in their 4-2 win at Newcastle on Sunday but had to come from behind twice and David Moyes is keen to strengthen his defence with at least one addition before the window closes.

He would like Zouma to be that player but the £25m deal but is only likely to happen if the wage demands come down.

07:59 , Malik Ouzia

The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal’s hopes of signing Martin Odegaard are on track, with the player’s representatives having arrived in London for talks.

The report claims that a one-year loan deal is to be discussed after which the Gunners would have a £30m option to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Arsenal have ramped up their interest in Odegaard, who spent the latter part of last season at the Emirates, after selling Joe Willock to Newcastle last week.

Ferdinand backs Saul or Rice for Man United switch

Monday 16 August 2021 22:54 , George Flood

Rio Ferdinand has backed Manchester United to sign either Saul Niguez or Declan Rice this summer...

“I think if the right player becomes available for the right price, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will go and get him,” the Old Trafford legend recently told his FIVE YouTube channel.

“The problem is who is out there and who could be a good fit? Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and he’s asking price was £160m a couple of years ago, now it’s more like £40-50m.

“In today’s game that’s a decent price for someone like him who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of his. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.

“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing.

“He was brilliant for England in the summer. I think if West Ham keep him they’ve done unbelievably well. I think he does well staying at West Ham or if he goes.”

Barcelona eye Coutinho for Aubameyang swap

Monday 16 August 2021 22:43 , George Flood

The Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona rumours are circulating again tonight.

Sky Sports claim that the LaLiga giants - whose president Joan Laporta confirmed earlier on Monday that the club’s debt levels had risen to a whopping £1.15bn - are interested in the Gunners skipper and are willing to offer Philippe Coutinho in a swap deal, having missed out on Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.

Aubameyang only signed a lucrative new three-year contract at Arsenal last summer, but he has flattered to deceive since then and The Times suggested last week that the club are now willing to listen to offers for their captain.

Tottenham make Nandez approach

Monday 16 August 2021 22:36 , George Flood

Some late Tottenham transfer news to bring you on this Monday night.

According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, Tottenham have made an approach to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

The versatile Uruguayan international, 25, has also been linked with West Ham and Leeds this summer after a proposed move to Inter Milan collapsed.

Lyon make contact over Chelsea’s Emerson

Monday 16 August 2021 21:56 , George Flood

Chelsea’s need to trim an enormous squad is obvious and they are evidently working towards that end as the August 31 transfer deadline gets closer.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Ike Ugbo are all on the way out this week, while Emerson Palmieri is expected to follow.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Ligue 1 outfit Lyon have made contact with Chelsea over the Italian international as they seek to add a new left-back to Peter Bosz’s squad.

Despite winning Euro 2020 with the Azzurri this summer, Emerson has long since been restricted to a bit-part role at Chelsea.

Agent: Arsenal and Spurs target Lautaro going nowhere

Monday 16 August 2021 20:34 , George Flood

Any hopes either Arsenal or Tottenham had of luring Lautaro Martinez away from Inter Milan before this month’s transfer deadline appear to be over.

The Argentine has been linked with both north London rivals as Mikel Arteta looks to increase his options up top and Spurs under Nuno Espirito Santo attempt to sign either a suitable partner or replacement for Harry Kane.

Inter’s owners have been hit particularly hard during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the chances of Lautaro being allowed to depart in the same window as ex-San Siro strike partner Romelu Lukaku always looked highly questionable, especially with the likes of Achraf Hakimi having also departed.

Now the 23-year-old’s agent has also reiterated that his client will be remaining in Milan as he looks to agree an extension to a contract that is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

“Lautaro wants to stay at Inter, he trusts the project and wants to win,” Alejandro Camano told FC Inter News.

“I’ll meet with Inter board on Wednesday to talk about his contract situation.

“Premier League clubs wanted him but he’s ready to stay.”

Done deal! Blades loan Liverpool’s Davies

Monday 16 August 2021 19:56 , George Flood

Promotion-chasing Sheffield United have clinched the signing of Ben Davies from Liverpool.

The former Preston defender will return to the Championship on a season-long loan deal, becoming manager Slavisa Jokanovic’s first signing at Bramall Lane.

Davies joined Liverpool in a shock £1.6m deal in January as Liverpool battled a defensive injury crisis, but has yet to make a senior appearance under Jurgen Klopp, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all now back fit.

West Ham still hopeful over ‘special’ Lingard

Monday 16 August 2021 19:41 , George Flood

In case you missed it earlier, West Ham assistant Stuart Pearce appeared on talkSPORT reiterating the club’s desire to seal a return to east London for Jesse Lingard.

The Manchester United and England midfielder rejuvenated his career with a wonderful loan spell with the Hammers in the second half of last term, helping to seal a top-six finish and place in the Europa League.

He has since returned to parent club Manchester United, where he is out of contract next summer and did not make the matchday squad on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thrashed rivals Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford.

“We would like him to come and join us,” Pearce said of Lingard on Monday. “That has been an open secret. He was wonderful last year.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

“The ball is in Manchester United’s court. He is contracted to them. We would like him with us, there is no doubt about that.

“He’s a special lad and was very good around the players – the players really like him.

“His ability shone out last year and gave us a great option in our squad. You never know, but at this moment in time it looks like he is fighting for a place in the United line-up.”

Tottenham await Vlahovic decision

Monday 16 August 2021 19:27 , George Flood

Tottenham are reportedly awaiting Fiorentina’s decision on the future of striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian international has been strongly linked with Spurs, who are said to have entered into a bidding war with LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid amid the ongoing Harry Kane saga.

Now Alfredo Pedulla reports that a bid of between €60m-€65m could be enough to land Vlahovic, with seemingly no progress regarding contract talks between the forward and Fiorentina.

Tottenham are also claimed to be trying to seal the signing of Vlahovic’s team-mate and compatriot Nikola Milenkovic, a defender also wanted by London rivals West Ham.

Bayern struggling to find new players, says Nagelsmann

Monday 16 August 2021 18:58 , George Flood

Much has been made recently in Germany of Bayern Munich’s inability to conduct major transfer business this summer, with new boss Julian Nagelsmann admitting that the reigning Bundesliga champions are struggling to sign players in such a tough, slow-moving market heavily impacted by Covid-19.

Only Dayot Upamecano, Omar Richards and Sven Ulreich have joined Bayern so far in this current window, with the latter two deals free transfers.

The Bavarians were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach in their 2021/22 Bundesliga opener on Friday night and next face Borussia Dortmund - who thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 - in the German Supercup tomorrow evening.

“We could not spend all the money we would like to spend. In the end, we have a good squad, but it’s always about injuries,” Nagelsmann said ahead of that eagerly-anticipated clash.

He added: “If you see the last two seasons, we lose a lot of players. It’s not that easy to try to find, always try to find good players.

“The transfer market is hard. We could not spend a lot of money.”

According to Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Belgian international is due in Istanbul this evening to wrap up his season-long loan switch to the Turkish capital and undergo a medical.

Batshuayi has long seemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, being dispatched for loan spells at Crystal Palace, Valencia and Borussia Dortmund over recent seasons.

We are still waiting for official confirmation of Tammy Abraham’s £34m switch to Roma, while Romano also reports that a third Chelsea forward, Ike Ugbo, will leave Stamford Bridge for Belgian side Genk on a permanent transfer this week.

Lukaku on Drogba role in Chelsea return

Monday 16 August 2021 17:10 , George Flood

Circling back to Lukaku, he has also revealed the role close friend and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba played in his return to Stamford Bridge.

“Our relationship means the world to me,” he said. “It’s not like we talk once a month, I talk to the guy every few days!

“We have a group chat so we’re constantly communicating and I’ve been on the phone with him a bit more in the past two weeks.

“I had a lot of questions to ask and he still knows a lot of people here so he really prepared me well with the last details.

“Now I just need to get to know the players and the manager a bit better and just be available as quickly as possible for the team.”

Laird and Clarkson make Championship loan moves

Monday 16 August 2021 16:56 , George Flood

A couple of loan deals have been struck and officially signed off this afternoon.

Manchester United have loaned highly-rated young full-back Ethan Laird to Swansea.

20-year-old Laird - who has made two senior United appearances to date - will once again play under Russell Martin, having spent time at MK Dons last season.

Meanwhile, staying in the Championship, Liverpool have allowed Leighton Clarkson to move to Blackburn.

The 19-year-old midfielder has three first-team outings to his name under Jurgen Klopp, who will hope he can make a similar impact at Ewood Park to that of fellow teenager Harvey Elliott in 2020/21.

Here’s more from Lukaku on what he is bringing to Chelsea...

“I’m a leader but I’m also more of a gel person, making sure that everybody feels comfortable and confident.

“That’s the way I lead. When I was at Inter and when I’ve been captain of the national team, I make sure that everybody is confident and knows what they have to do.

“When there’s a difficult moment in the game, they can lean on me and I’ll always be encouraging my team-mates, never being down on them or barking at them.

Monday 16 August 2021 15:47 , George Flood

Romelu Lukaku has given his first official interview to Chelsea’s official website after completing that club-record £97.5m return to Stamford Bridge last week.

One of the questions asked of the prolific Belgian international was the key differences between the player that departed west London back in 2014 to the one arriving now...

“I just feel more complete,” Lukaku said.

“I’ve tried to master all the facets that a striker needs and I just want to keep improving on the small details all the time and keep improving on my strengths as well.

“I just want to try to help the team win and be available for the manager as well as for my team-mates. I want to make sure that they feel comfortable and they can lean on me in whatever situation we’re in.”

Monday 16 August 2021 12:27 , Malik Ouzia

West Ham coach Stuart Pearce says the club are still hoping to sign Jesse Lingard this summer, despite what we heard earlier on about the Englishman being part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Man United.

“We would like him to come and join us. That has been an open secret. He was wonderful last year,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“The ball is in Manchester United’s court. He is contracted to them. We would like him with us, there is no doubt about that.

“He’s a special lad and was very good around the players, the players really like him. His ability shone out last year and gave us a great option in our squad.

“You never know, but at this moment in time it looks like he is fighting for a place in the United line-up.”

Monday 16 August 2021 11:44 , Malik Ouzia

The Athletic say that Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin is unhappy at the club and is pushing to leave before the end of the transfer window.

Spurs, meanwhile, are playing in the new third-tier European competion, Uefa’s Europa Conference League.

Bellingham enjoyed a breakout season in his first campaign at Borussia Dortmund, breaking into the England squad for the European Championships.

Nuno: We must be ready to act if Kane goes

Monday 16 August 2021 09:54 , Malik Ouzia

Nuno Espirito Santo says Tottenham do not expect Harry Kane to leave the club before the end of the month but must be “ready to act” in the event he does.

The England captain was left out of the squad as Spurs got the Nuno era off to a perfect start with a 1-0 win over Kane’s suitors Manchester City.

Kane is hoping City up their interest this week with a bid that would persuade Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to come to the table, although the London club have maintained throughout the summer that he will not be sold before the August 31 transfer deadline.

“The decision [to leave out Harry] was made on Saturday, the day we prepared for the match,” Nuno said. “We have to make decisions, it’s our job.

“Harry is [training] with us, he worked on Sunday morning and he’s getting ready to help the team. We don’t expect [something to happen before the transfer deadline but] we have to be ready to act if necessary because until the 31st anything can happen in football.”

Lingard to play ‘big part’ for Man United

Monday 16 August 2021 09:22 , Malik Ouzia

West Ham’s hopes of signing Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal this summer look to be fading, with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggesting the Englishman has a “big part” to play at Old Trafford this season.

Lingard missed United’s 5-1 thrashing of Leeds as he works back to fitness after testing positive for Covid-19, but afterwards Solskjaer warned: “Don’t forget Jesse Lingard who has re-invented himself and has come back the man that we know he is with the quality. He is going to play a big part as well.

“Of course there could be more rotation. We will be fresher. We will have to have a big and strong squad to be competitive in this league. It’s the best league in the world and we also have to be lucky with injuries, but I am looking forward to working with all these players.

“We have to work hard and see who is fit and available. There will be a few fit and available definitely [against Southampton next Sunday].”

Mbappe turns down PSG deal

Monday 16 August 2021 09:01 , Malik Ouzia

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to meet the PSG hierachy today after rejecting a new six-year contract at the club.

Marca claim that the Frenchman is still hopeful of sealing a move to Real Madrid this summer, though given he is now into the final year of his deal, the Spanish giants would surely prefer to wait until next summer to nab him on a free.

PSG’s summer transfer activity has been the envy of Europe, but it looks as if they still have a very key issue to iron out before the window closes.

Gunners still keen on Martinez

Monday 16 August 2021 08:33 , Malik Ouzia

One transfer rumour from earlier in the window that has resurfaced today is Arsenal’s supposed interest in Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Argentine, who is also said to be wanted by Tottenham as a potential Harry Kane replacement.

Tuttomercato say Arsenal are still hoping to seal a deal before the transfer window closes, though how easy that will be given Inter have already sold one star striker in Romelu Lukaku remains to be seen.

Harry Kane latest

Monday 16 August 2021 07:40 , Malik Ouzia

Well, there’s only one place to start this morning - as I suspect will be the case every day between now and the end of the transfer window - and that’s with the latest on the future of Tottenham star Harry Kane.

The England captain missed yesterday’s win over Man City, deemed not yet fit enough to be involved after an extended summer break, but he was understood to be in the stadium, where the home fans broke into several renditions of “Are you watching Harry Kane?” as they celebrated the 1-0 victory.

Reports in The Times and The Telegraph yesterday claimed it is increasingly likely that Kane will stay at Spurs this season, with chairman Daniel Levy refusing to budge in sanctioning a sale to City.

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says Harry Kane will join the squad when he is ready after missing today's 1-0 win over Man City.

Kane trained on Sunday morning and Nuno said: "Harry, like (new signings) Bryan (Gil), Cristian Romero, they joined us later.

"For Cristian and Bryan it was very important to be here today. To feel the atmosphere and be in the stadium and be in the hotel, attending the meeting, but knowing they don't have too many sessions with us.

"Harry worked this morning, he is preparing himself and when he is ready he will join the group and help the team."

When asked about the Spurs fans chanting "are you watching Harry Kane?", Nuno added: "Look, Harry Kane is one of the best players in the world, honestly.

"We are very lucky to have him. He has to get ready and help the team. We still have to go to Portugal (to play Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League play-offs) then we think about Wolves."

Sunday 15 August 2021 21:56 , Tom Doyle

Barcelona began the post-Lionel Messi era with an entertaining 4-2 home win over Real Sociedad in their first game of the LaLiga season tonight.

A header from Gerard Pique gave the Catalans the lead in the 19th minute to the delight of 20,000 fans who returned to the Camp Nou for the first time in 17 months, and Martin Braithwaite struck either side of halftime to extend their lead.

Sociedad looked to be out of the game but substitute Julen Lobete pulled them back into contention in the 82nd minute and forward Mikel Oyarzabal scored a stunning free kick moments later to set Barcelona nerves jangling.

Sergi Roberto struck in added time for the hosts, however, to make sure of the points in Barca’s first match without all-time top scorer Messi, who joined Paris St Germain last week after 21 years with the Spanish club.

Haaland sends timely reminder

Saturday 14 August 2021 21:37 , Tom Doyle

During a transfer window in which some of the world's top forwards have been changing clubs, it has been something of a quiet summer for Erling Haaland.

A scramble for the Norway striker's signature had been expected between the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Man City, but Haaland now looks set to stay at Borussia Dortmund for another year - and that certainly suits BVB.

With his family among the 25,000 fans in the Westfalenstadion stands for Dortmund's opening game of the 2021/22 season against Eintracht Frankfurt, Haaland was in lethal - and generous - form.

The young forward was involved in all five of Dortmund's goals in a 5-2 victory, scoring twice and bagging three more assists to underline his star quality to take his tally to 62 goals in 61 competitive games for BVB.

Varane unveiled at Old Trafford

Saturday 14 August 2021 16:50 , Tom Doyle

Raphael Varane received an outstanding reception as Manchester United’s new signing was paraded in front of a packed Old Trafford before their Premier League opener against rivals Leeds.

Having announced a deal had been struck to sign the France international on July 27, the completion of the 28-year-old’s signing has been delayed by the need for a visa, isolation and medical.

Such delays meant Varane missed Saturday’s clash with rivals Leeds, but United announced just before kick-off that he had signed a four-year deal for a reported £34million fee, rising to £42million with add-ons.

The France international was introduced to the crowd nine minutes before kick-off and met by a wall of noise when he emerged from the tunnel holding his United shirt with the number 19 on the back.

No Liverpool bids for Saul Niguez... yet

Saturday 14 August 2021 10:22 , George Flood

Saul Niguez has just about been linked with every major Premier League power over the course of another window in which he has been a regular fixture in transfer dispatches.

The connection with Liverpool appears strongest, but AS now report that Atletico Madrid have yet to receive any formal bids for the Spain international with just two weeks to go before the deadline.

Are the Reds merely biding their time, or do they have someone else in mind to replace Georginio Wijnaldum?

Or perhaps Jurgen Klopp really is content to roll with what he has...

As well as the Pau Torres links, Sky Sports now report that Spurs are in talks with Fiorentina over a deal for Nikola Milenkovic.

West Ham had been trying to strike a deal for the Serbian international, but have reportedly stepped away from talks for now, while Wolves have also been linked.

Friday 13 August 2021 18:17 , Tom Doyle

Done deal!

Friday 13 August 2021 17:51 , Tom Doyle

Joe Willock has joined Newcastle on a permanent deal, and is confident he made “the right move to the right club at the right time” to leave Arsenal.

The 21-year-old, who scored in each of his last seven Premier League appearances for the Magpies during a hugely successful loan spell last season, has signed a long-term deal.

Head coach Steve Bruce revealed on Friday morning he would be at the club for six years - for an undisclosed fee which it is understood could eventually amount to £25million.

Willock, who will wear the number 28 shirt, said: “I’m buzzing to be here. I loved my time here last season and I’m really happy to be back and to be a Newcastle United player.

“Leaving Arsenal is obviously a big step, and I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for all their support over the years, but this is the right move to the right club at the right time for me.

“I only got one chance to play in front of a smaller number of Newcastle fans as a home player last season, so I can’t wait to step out in front of a packed St. James’ Park and experience that atmosphere.”

Solskjaer: Varane deal will be completed ‘soon'

Friday 13 August 2021 15:04 , George Flood

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed before Manchester United’s Premier League opener against fierce rivals Leeds tomorrow that the deal to take Raphael Varane from Real Madrid to Old Trafford is yet to be officially completed.

However. the Norwegian is confident of the transfer being wrapped up very soon.

“He’s not trained with us and all the dots over the i’s and we haven’t crossed the t’s yet,” United manager Solskjaer said.

“Things happen and things take time and unfortunately with the isolation that delayed these things.

“It’s not 100 per cent done yet... I can’t say that he will be involved tomorrow, I can probably say he won’t be (involved) because he’s not trained with us.”

Asked what the hold up has been and if there is any concern it will not be completed, he added: “It always happens that there’s little things in there.

“But the big hold up was the isolation and the quarantine, of course. He’s been in Manchester now. It’ll be done soon.”

Willock undergoing Newcastle medical

Friday 13 August 2021 12:01 , George Flood

An update from Newcastle boss Steve Bruce now on Joe Willock’s move back to the north east from Arsenal...

“He’s having a medical as we speak, so we hope that comes through OK and he’ll be able to train with us this afternoon,” Bruce said at a press conference held before Sunday’s visit of West Ham on opening weekend.

“We knew that we’d have to be patient. From the very last game of the season, we’d made it pretty obvious that if Joe was going to become available, then we would try to secure him.

“To start with, I knew Mikel would want to have a look at him in pre-season - that’s only normal, to have a look at your young players - so we knew we had to be patient.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

“Obviously we explored the loan situation to begin with - because I think that would have suited certainly Joe and it certainly suited us - but when that wasn’t possible with Arsenal, then we’ve had to go and buy him, which is great for us.

“There were times when I didn’t think it was going to happen, but fair play to (managing director) Lee (Charnley) and everybody concerned, we’ve managed to get it over the line.

“The key to it, of course, is Joe himself wanting to come back, so we’ve had to be patient, but it’s been worth the wait.”

Kane hoping for Man City transfer breakthrough

Friday 13 August 2021 11:08 , George Flood

Harry Kane is hoping his future will become clearer after Tottenham's clash with Manchester City on Sunday, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Kane is expected to rejoin his team-mates in training on Friday morning after returning a negative PCR test on Thursday, releasing him from quarantine.

There is thought to have been contact between Spurs and City in the past week over the England captain, although Spurs were surprised at overnight reports that the Premier League champions value Kane in the region of £120million.

Spurs have no interest in selling their talisman but Daniel Levy, the chairman, would be pressed to consider a bid of £150m-160m.

There was never any likelihood of a deal before Spurs host City but Kane is hoping for a breakthrough in talks after the fixture.

That is according to Belgian outlet Voetbal24, who claim that Ligue 1 outfit Rennes would be looking to bank a fee of around £38m for the highly-rated teenage forward.

However, speaking this week, Jurgen Klopp seemed to claim that he did not necessarily need any further signings and was happy with the talent at his disposal on Merseyside as Liverpool hope to regain their Premier League crown in 2021/22.

“If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here,” he said.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players.

“If something happens somewhere, something can happen somewhere else, but it makes no sense to add more players.”

Speaking of Mr Romano - he also has an update on Arsenal’s search for a new playmaker.

Ex-loanee Martin Odegaard now appears to have come back into the picture, alongside long-term target James Maddison of Leicester.

According to Romano, Odegaard has always been the priority target ahead of Maddison, with Arsenal now waiting on an answer from Real Madrid as to whether or not they will be willing to let him go this summer after all.

If they are, then the Gunners seemingly stand ready to swoop for the Norwegian international.

Man City preparing huge new Kane bid

Friday 13 August 2021 07:41 , George Flood

Staying with Kane for a second, Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano does indeed report that Man City are now preparing a bid of €150m for Kane.

It is said that the reigning Premier League champions are willing to include unspecified add-ons into the deal in order to convince Tottenham to part with their prize asset.

Will it be enough? Seems unlikely...

ICYMI - Man City willing to pay £127m for Kane

Friday 13 August 2021 07:33 , George Flood

In case you missed this yesterday, the pressure seems to be increasing somewhat on Tottenham in the Harry Kane saga.

According to The Guardian, Man City are willing to pay a British record €150m (£127m) for the England captain if they get the green light from Spurs, who have thus far been unwilling to entertain the idea of selling their key talisman.

However, that figure is still below the £150m many believe it will take for Tottenham to even consider a deal.

Spurs and City do battle on the opening weekend of the Premier League season of course, but it remains to be seen if Kane will play on Sunday afternoon.

He can rejoin group training at Tottenham today, provided a PCR test he took yesterday returns a negative result.

Fresh from his emotional goodbye at Barcelona on Sunday, Lionel Messi was all smiles as he trained with his new club PSG today.

It was the first time Messi, who won 10 LaLiga and four Champions League titles with Barcelona, set foot on the pitch since leading Argentina to the Copa America title with a 1-0 win over Brazil.

L’Equipe reports that Messi’s maiden training session with PSG consisted mainly of individual running and physical recovery exercises after meeting his new team mates at the club’s training ground, while Twitter pictures from PSG’s account show him going up against Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos.

Rodgers hoping for speedy Vestergaard deal

Thursday 12 August 2021 20:37 , Tom Doyle

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers hopes the club can complete a deal to bring in defender Jannik Vestergaard ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves.

The Foxes have moved for Denmark international Vestergaard, 29, after Wesley Fofana suffered a fractured fibula during a friendly against Villarreal.

A £15million deal is reported to have been agreed, with Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl confirming the remaining medical details were being finalised.

Vestergaard would need to be registered by noon on Friday to feature against Wolves for the FA Community Shield winners.

“Clearly there has been contact by the clubs. There has been nothing finalised but hopefully we will be able to confirm that,” Rodgers said at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“We have permission from them for him to be here. Hopefully everything can be organised, then we will see if he is available for the weekend.

“Without going into detail before Jannik is confirmed as a signing, it was pretty clear we needed a centre-half. That’s probably what sparked the interest, we were very light in the area.

“It’s a great tribute to the club that we could get our work done very quickly and see if we could sign a player of quality. Once we have that done, I can speak more on it.”
