Transfer news LIVE! Ronaldo, Kane, Mbappe latest; Chelsea FC, Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool rumours today
Transfer news LIVE!
The Harry Kane saga rumbles on at Tottenham with Manchester City still hoping for a British record deal before the August 31 deadline despite fresh links to Robert Lewandowski, but we saw the England captain back in Spurs action at Wolves on Sunday.
Chelsea have had a busy summer, having already re-signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for £97.5m - and he is off the mark with a goal in a 2-0 win over Arsenal. The Blues also want to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, are weighing up a swoop for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and have been linked with Barcelona youngster Ilaix Moriba as well.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have completed the signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid, with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale following, while Manchester United have made blockbuster moves to bring in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane - and have reportedly set their sights on Kylian Mbappe for next summer.
It still seems slightly unreal, but Lionel Messi is officially a PSG player after Barcelona were unable to afford a new contract - and now Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly weighs up his options, with Juventus denying that the forward asked to be left out against Udinese on Sunday night.
Liverpool have also been linked with the likes of Saul and Mbappe amid new contract plans for Mohamed Salah, while Tottenham are now reportedly targeting Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr as well as Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic and West Ham may have fresh hope as they pursue the permanent return of Jesse Lingard.

Ronaldo to... Tottenham?!
07:22 , Alex Young
According to Sport Italia's Michele Criscitiello, Tottenham are among the possible destinations for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Since he came back we have said it, there is a clear will on the part of [Max] Allegri not wanting to start [the job] again with Ronaldo and vice-versa," he said.
"The cycle of Ronaldo in black and white is over, confirmation has arrived [with the team] in Udine.
"Even Tottenham [is a] possible destination."

Tuchel happy with Chelsea squad

Thomas Tuchel insists he is satisfied with his Chelsea squad as the transfer window draws to a close.

But Tuchel says he will be happy to continue with no more additions after the club-record £97.5million signing of Romelu Lukaku.
After seeing his side continue their 100 per cent start to the season with Lukaku scoring in a 2-0 win against Arsenal, Tuchel claimed his squad was strong enough to cope if there are no more in-comings.
He said: “I am absolutely happy with our squad and the alternatives we have. It's not too big a squad, we were missing Christian Pulisic today and that meant everybody else was in the squad.
"That means we maybe don't have the biggest squad, but that we have a very competitive squad in all positions."

Reports in the Italian media suggested Ronaldo had asked to be named as a substitute in order to remain fit for a move away from the club, something Juve denied.
But after coming off the bench, the 36-year-old Portuguese forward thought he had headed his side to victory right at the death, only for VAR to rule Ronaldo to be offside.

"Everyone needs to resolve this. It’s been a long drama now. I got on with Daniel Levy well when I’ve worked with him. He drives a hard bargain but he’s got his football club as his concern.
"The player wants to go. We want to all see Harry Kane and wish him well. And I’m sure if the deal does go through, Spurs fans will wish him that as well."
Ndombele asks to leave
Friday 20 August 2021 17:16 , Alex Young
More on Tanguy Ndombele’s future from Sky Sports, who confirm The Athletic’s line that the player has told Tottenham he wishes to leave the club this season.
But having cost close to £60m and taking home £200,000-a-week - second only to Harry Kane and reportedly on par with Heung-min Son - is there a market for him?
Locatelli: I deserve Juve move
Friday 20 August 2021 17:00 , Alex Young
New Juventus signing Manuel Locatelli has said that he deserved his move from Sassuolo to the Turin giants, adding it had always been his dream to play for the club.
"This has always been the dream I had as a child, we have a Juventus family," he told a news conference on Friday ahead of Juve's opening game of the season against Udinese.
"I have to get into the role right away, if I'm here it's because I deserve it and can't wait to start.
"Juve has always been my priority, luckily I'm here, the negotiation wasn't easy. There was a moment when I was worried but luckily my family and my girlfriend were close to me and now I'm here."
Moyes hopeful over West Ham deals... but offers no guarantees
Friday 20 August 2021 16:00 , George Flood
A loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is still the only incoming transfer business conducted by West Ham so far this summer.
Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser notes that negotiations continue over Kurt Zouma, but that the Chelsea defender’s £125,000-a-week wage demands are proving problematic.
Does David Moyes plan to make any further signings before the deadline?
“I hope to do some more business,” he said this afternoon. “We have been trying hard and we are trying to add to a good group of players. We have a challenging season ahead of us and I am hoping we can do something but we have no guarantees.”
Earlier this week, Hammers assistant Stuart Pearce went on national radio and talked up a potential return to east London for popular ex-loanee Jesse Lingard.
“Pearcey is a great spokesperson, don’t worry about that,” Moyes said on Friday. “Of course we enjoyed having Jesse [on loan] but he is a Manchester United player.
“The questions are not for me but for Manchester United. If the opportunity arose for us to get Jesse, we’d be interested.”
Ndombele open to leaving Spurs
Friday 20 August 2021 15:34 , George Flood
It’s not looking good for Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham.
Nuno has confirmed that the Frenchman will not play any part once again when Spurs visit Wolves on Sunday.
“He was not part of the squad in the Conference League because he was not part of the list,” Nuno said.
“I can be completely honest with you, Tanguy is not going to be involved in the squad on Sunday.”
The Athletic now report that Ndombele - Tottenham’s record signing - has informed the club he is open to leaving N17 before the August 31 transfer deadline.
Bruno Lage on Neves rumours: ‘Every player has a price'
Friday 20 August 2021 15:12 , George Flood
Right then, time for a bit of a round-up on Premier League transfer updates gleaned from this afternoon’s latest batch of manager press conferences.
We start at Wolves, where Bruno Lage insists that he does not want to sell in-demand midfielder Ruben Neves, but admits that every player has his price.
“All the top players we have are linked with all the clubs in the world,” he said before Sunday’s visit of predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo and Tottenham.
“If you go to Portugal, the top players at Benfica are all linked with moves to Wolves.
“Ruben is happy here and we are happy with him. We are not thinking to let anyone leave, but every player has a price.
“You never know, if Messi changes to PSG then anyone can go.”
Asked if there had been any bids for Neves, Lage replied: “Real proposals? Not yet.”
On incomings at Molineux, the Portuguese added: “We are working 24 hours every day. We have 11 or 12 days to bring the players we want to be more competitive.
“The most important thing is our chairman knows what we need - the profile, the positions - and we are working hard to bring the players we want for the squad.
“Top players, to be more competitive.”
Guardiola dismisses Lewandowski to Man City links
Friday 20 August 2021 14:22 , George Flood
Pep Guardiola has given short shrift to those Robert Lewandowski to Manchester City transfer rumours!
“Next question,” he said when asked about the prolific Bayern Munich star at his pre-Norwich press conference this afternoon.
“Lewy is such an important player for Bayern Munich and he will stay at Bayern Munich.
“I’m not going to talk with 11 days left about the transfer market. I don’t know what’s going to happen, nobody knows.”
Guardiola also insisted that he would be happy with his squad if the window were to close with no further signings amid City’s ongoing struggles to convince Tottenham to part with Harry Kane.
“Absolutely - more than happy,” he said. “It’s the same team we had last season except for Sergio (Aguero) and for Jack (Grealish).”

Benitez casts doubt over James future at Everton
Friday 20 August 2021 13:40 , George Flood
Rafael Benitez has faced more questions over the future of Everton duo James Rodriguez and Moise Kean ahead of tomorrow’s trip to face Leeds at Elland Road...
“A lot of speculation. We have to work with the players that are here. Until Aug. 31, yes, he’s [James] in my plans,” said the Spaniard, who also confirmed that former Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has signed for the club.
“Hopefully he’ll be fine for next week and he can carry on with training sessions, and we can see what happens until the end of the transfer window.
“Still we have some issues. It’s not just two to three days. Kean for example was coming back so we have some new faces but still some problems.”
Sessegnon has no loan plans
Friday 20 August 2021 13:12 , Tom Doyle
Ryan Sessegnon says competition for places at Tottenham is pushing him "to the limit", but revealed he has no plans to go back out on loan.
"There's competition everywhere in the team but three good players in one position at left-back and it's good for everyone involved," Sessegnon said.
"It pushes everyone to their limit. Everyone wants to be playing but only one can play at a time. Everyone is ready for the challenge and that's what's in front of us at the moment.
"It's for me now to get on the pitch and try to play as many games as I can and try to stay injury-free. Last season I played a lot of games for Hoffenheim and I enjoyed my time there but I'm here now and I focused here on playing as many games as I can and the gaffer is giving me opportunities to play.
"I don't have any plans to go back out on loan at the moment, I don't think. I'm just really focused on doing my job here at Tottenham."
Nuno backs Romero to adapt quickly
Friday 20 August 2021 12:43 , Tom Doyle
Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says summer signing Cristian Romero will take no time to adapt to English football, despite the defender's rough debut in Portugal on Thursday night.
"We need to be patient with all the players because this is the Premier League," Nuno said. "When a player changes country we need to realise that we need to support him. But honestly I think with the quality and talent that Romero has, his adaptation will be very fast.
"He played a good game [on Thursday night]. He was intense and this is what we want from our defenders, to be strong in duels."
Asked if Romero could make his first Premier League start on Sunday when Nuno returns to his former club, the head coach said: "First we have return to London, prepare for the next game, work with all the group and then on Saturday we'll make a decision."
Tuchel forced into Chalobah loan rethink
Friday 20 August 2021 11:03 , George Flood
Those sustained links to Jules Kounde come despite a change of heart from Chelsea with regards to Trevoh Chalobah, as Standard Sport’s James Robson explains...
Chelsea are ready to keep hold of Trevoh Chalobah after the 22-year-old convinced Thomas Tuchel he has a role to play this season.
The Champions League winners are set to open contract talks with the defender, who has less than two years remaining on his deal.
Chalobah was expected to go out on loan this season – but his performances during the summer and in the opening game of the campaign against Crystal Palace have prompted Tuchel into a rethink.
He was particularly impressive in Chelsea’s Super Cup victory against Villarreal last week – and then scored on his Premier League debut in the 3-0 win against Crystal Palace.
Lille and Valencia had been interested in taking Chalobah on loan, as well as a number of Premier League clubs.

Kounde and Saul Niguez to Chelsea?
Friday 20 August 2021 10:53 , George Flood
Chelsea have made quite a splash in the transfer market already this summer, with Romelu Lukaku’s club-record £97.5m return from Inter Milan one of the most high-profile deals of the window so far.
But they don’t appear to be finished strengthening their Champions League-winning squad for a Premier League title challenge just yet.
Per Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are still working on a deal to sign Sevilla and France defender Jules Kounde, while they are also now said to be weighing up a potential swoop for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez before the deadline.

According to ESPN, Manchester United have added a certain Kylian Mbappe to their list of ambitious striker targets for next summer’s transfer window.
The French superstar has entered the final 12 months of his deal at Paris Saint-Germain - where he will form a truly formidable front three this season with Lionel Messi and Neymar - and is yet to agree an extension.
He has reportedly been added to a stellar list of United targets for 2022 that also includes Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez.
Liverpool and Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with Mbappe, who many still expect to agree fresh terms in Paris.

Lingard hope for West Ham?
Thursday 19 August 2021 22:20 , Tom Doyle
Jesse Lingard is back at Manchester United and looks set to be a valuable squad option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - but is that enough to keep him?
The Times reports that Lingard is ready to leave United unless he thinks he's going to get regular game time - and that's something Solskjaer may be unlikely to guarantee with so many forward options.
If that is the case and Lingard pushes for a move, West Ham will surely be back in for him after such a successful loan spell last season.

“Everything is positive. There is a good atmosphere in the squad and he has settled in well and quickly. There is a very good feeling.”

£100m+ valuation to stop Lewandowski leaving Bayern
Thursday 19 August 2021 09:16 , Marco Giacomelli
Would you be happy if your club paid more than £100m for a player about to turn 33? Suppose that player was Robert Lewandowski?
Well, Sky Sports News is reporting today that the Bayern Munich striker wants to move to another top European side before he is 35.
He has two years left on his contract but the club’s £100m-plus valuation will make any move incredibly difficult.
Although Lewandowski is said to be frustrated by Bayern’s stance, Sky says he is unlikely to rock the boat at a club where he has spent seven years, scoring 297 goals in 331 games.

The differences between Levy and Kane
Thursday 19 August 2021 08:12 , Marco Giacomelli
The Telegraph report on why Daniel Levy and Harry Kane are disagreeing over their gentleman’s agreement regarding a potential move.
The striker believes he was promised he could go this summer if Tottenham finished outside the top-four or did not win a trophy last season.
However, the Telegraph understand that Levy believes the agreement was that Kane would be sold only to a foreign side, unless a Premier League rival made an “amazing offer”.
Kane, it is said, believes that proposal was raised in meetings far more recently, and that he never agreed to it, but Levy is digging in.
