Travel expert shares 'one thing you must know' to save costs when flying east
If you're thinking of booking a long-haul flight east in the near future, a travel expert shared a "cheat code" to cut down on spending.
Taking to TikTok, Maximillian Angel explained if you're travelling from the UK to destinations including Southeast Asia and Australia, you "need to know" about his suggestion. "Sometimes, rather than booking directly from the UK, it's best to head to another city in Europe, before then taking your long haul flight," he said.
Providing an example journey of trip to Singapore, Maximillian shared the country is of significant importance due to its connections "all around Asia" and once you're there, you "can pretty go much anywhere".

Maximillian explained on his two recent trips back from Singapore, he travelled via Athens, Greece, which from there is a "simple flight back to the UK". He referenced FlyScoot.com - a carrier which operates between Singapore and the Greek capital, offering prices that are "hard to beat".
"A number of these routes throughout March are just £179 and Scoot only operates direct flights," he added. "But the main route with British Airways from the UK is in excess of £400."
Maximillian continued: "On top of this price you're going to have to factor in the price its going to cost you to get to Athens. Throughout March there are an incredible number of options for less than £30 that get you from London to Athens. So all-in from London to Athens and Athens to Singapore that's not much more than £200." He pointed out, however, there is an additional fee for taking check luggage.
From there, he closed his clip by revealing you can get to several popular destinations including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines and Indonesia for an average of £50 via Skyscanner. Meanwhile, a trip to Perth, Australia is only another £99.
Others were sceptical, however, with one TikTok user claiming: "Scoot is not for the weak. Cramped seating and no food (have to buy food) for a flight over 10hrs is rough." While another agreed: "From what I’ve heard and seen, Scoot is really awful. Apparently you cannot bring outside food because they want you to spend more money. also their aircraft are designed to be dense so little comfort."
Scoot's website states: "At Scoot, we strive to provide a smooth and comfortable travel experience for all. Scoot is not your typical low-cost carrier (LCC). We are defined by our unique Scootitude – a passion for travel, connecting people and cultures, and pushing boundaries, which drives us to continually innovate, strive for improvement and seek new opportunities.
"We are an airline for the young, the young-at-heart and the value-seeking. People who believe that travel is all about spontaneous discovery, building connections and creating fresh experiences."
