Travelers Crowd Hallway at New York's JFK Airport During Customs System Outage

Passengers encountered long lines for customs at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on August 16 after US Customs and Border Protection experienced a computer system outage.

“CBP is experiencing a temporary outage with its processing systems at various air ports of entry [and] is taking immediate action to address the technology disruption. CBP officers continue to process international travelers using alternative procedures until systems are back online,” Customs and Border Protection said in a tweet.

The system outage also affected other major airports, including New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport.
