'Traveller settlement' on old Stoke-on-Trent factory
'Travellers' have set up camp on the site of an old factory. Caravans remained on the former Hanbury Plastics Recycling site, on Redhills Road, in Milton, this morning.
It comes more than seven years after a major fire ripped through the site. It has been established that the land is privately owned giving Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire Police fewer powers to deal with the travellers.
City councillor Laura Carter said: "I have received lots of calls and messages about a traveller settlement on the old plastics factory. Redhills Road is the boundary for a couple of wards so I have liaised with other councillors on this one.

"Unfortunately the land is not council owned so we don’t have much jurisdiction here and trespassing is a civil matter so the police will have trouble intervening also. The landowner has been identified and all relevant officers within the council have been notified. It will be for the landowner to take action going forward but local councillors are happy to support."
