Travellers pitch up on leisure centre car park in Solihull

A group of travellers have pitched up on a gym car park in Solihull. Footage, recorded on a camera phone, showed around ten caravans lined up on Tudor Grange Leisure Centre car park today, May 31.

The car park is used by members of the leisure centre which has a range of fitness facilities including a gym and swimming pool. The unauthorised encampment comes only days after a fleet of caravans moved onto the town's Monkspath Hall Road car park.

Solihull Council said at the time it was working with police to move the group on "as quickly as possible". In separate incidents, travellers also pitched up at Monkspath car park in 2016 and then a year later in 2017.

We contacted the council for comment on Tudor Grange this afternoon, but did not receive a statement at time of publication. On travellers moving onto Monkspath Hall Road car park, a council spokesperson told us on Tuesday: "We're aware of an unauthorised encampment.

"Working alongside Solihull Police, we are undertaking the necessary legal actions to move them on as quickly as possible."
