Travolta 'Sorry' For Adele Dazeem Oscars Fluff
John Travolta has apologised to award-winning singer Idina Menzel after his much-ridiculed mis-pronunciation of her name during the Oscars.
The actor said he had been "beating myself up" over it after he took to the stage to introduce Menzel but inexplicably called her "Adele Dazeem".
An estimated 43 million people were watching the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night and Travolta has been mocked on social media since.
But Menzel seemed unperturbed by the gaffe as she performed the Oscar-winning song Let It Go from the Disney hit Frozen.
"I've been beating myself up all day," the Grease star said in a statement released by his publicist. "Then I thought ... what would Idina Menzel say, She'd say, 'Let it go, let it go!'"
Menzel is a Tony-winning stage performer who played Maureen Johnson in Rent on stage and on screen and Elphaba in Wicked.
A Twitter account with the handle @adeladazeem went up immediately after the mistake and has over 20,000 followers. On Facebook, a Travolta-fier Name Generator, which butchers any name typed in, became immensely popular.
Frozen was named the best animated film on the night as well as taking home the original song award.
The film has now earned more than $1bn worldwide.
