Tree Falls Outside Pub In Wigan: Four Hurt

A boy has suffered a suspected broken leg and three other people were injured after a tree fell on top of them near a pub in Wigan

The seven-year-old was taken to Wigan Infirmary with a suspected fracture of the right leg following the accident which took place at the Hockery Brook pub on Wigan Road in Hindley.

Two women, aged 23 and 26, and a 23-year-old man were also taken to hospital but suffered only minor injuries, Greater Manchester Ambulance service said.

Fire crews from Wigan and Hindley fire service and three ambulance vehicles were called to the scene on Sunday afternoon.

It was initially thought the injured were trapped under the tree, but it later emerged not to be the case.

A spokeswoman from Greater Manchester Fire Service said: "Fire crews were called after a tree uprooted and had fallen outside a pub.

"A technical response unit was also called to the scene as it was thought people were trapped, but the unit was not used in this case."
