Tree crumples car outside owner's home after Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc on Teesside
A car crushed by a tree falling onto it is just one of dozens of incidents of damage caused as Storm Éowyn rampaged through Teesside.
The winds of up to 70mph have seen lorries tipped over, power cuts, bricks and tiles fyling from roofs and even a school having to evacuate. In Stockton's Windermere Road a large tree on the path was blown onto a car parked on a householder's drive, leaving it crushed.
Peter Wilson, owner of Goodfellers Tree Services, was called out to remove the tree and said he had been innundated with requests for help. He said: "Trees have been coming down left, right and centre this morning." He said while it is good for his business it is awful for those affected.

Fallen trees caused problems for road users across Teesside by blocking roads. These included in Durham Road, just near to the Mile House junction in Stockton, McMullen Road in Darlington, the slip road off the A174 at the Marton Interchange, Yarm Road in Stockton and The Avenue in Guisborough. Others were later reported near Great Ayton and Weary Bank, Yarm.
The strong winds led to a stretch of the A19 being closed to high-sided vehicles in both the northerly and southerly directions on the dual carriageway from the A66 to A1046 Haverton Hill Road (Portrack Interchange).
And, a lorry overturned on the A689 eastbound near Wynyard leaving the road closed. Thankfully the driver is not thought to have been seriously injured.
Buildings across Teesside have also taken a battering with roads and paths being closed due to falling debris. At Pass Training Centre in Alberto Street, Stockton, a Christmas tree that had been on the top of the roof for years was blown off and elsewhere in the town's Ramsgate the area around The Red Lion pub was cordoned off as bricks from the roof hit the floor.
At Egglescliffe School and Sixth Form College in Urlay Nook Road, Eaglescliffe, there had to be a controlled evacuation after the strong winds caused scaffolding on the school to come down and at Elwick Primary School in Hartlepool the children were sent home due to a power cut which hit the village.
Storm Éowyn hit the UK this morning with an Amber weather warning in place for very strong winds, particularly across the North East. The Met Office says the warning will remain in effect until 9pm tonight.
