Trent Alexander-Arnold has told his fans to “always believe in youself” after ‘silencing the doubters’ by being named in the England squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Alexander-Arnold had previously fallen out of favour with England boss Gareth Southgate, missing the cut for the Three Lions’ most recent international break in March following a difficult season with Liverpool.

That omission appeared to put his chances of a Euros call-up in serious doubt, especially given Southgate is blesses with a wealth of talent at right-back - but he returned to form during the run-in as Liverpool qualified for the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold was named in Southgate’s expanded provisional 33-man squad last week, but with Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier also making the cut, it was thought the Liverpool full-back could still miss out.

However, Alexander-Arnold made the cut in the final 26-man squad, with six other players - Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse, Ollie Watkins, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey and Ben White - missing out, while Mason Greenwood also pulled out due to injury.

Following the squad announcement on Tuesday afternoon, Alexander-Arnold took to Twitter to celebrate.
