The Trial: Murder in the Family – what's real?
In a brand new TV concept, Channel 4's The Trial: A Murder in the Family follows a fake court case – with the twist being that it is judged by real people.
This particular experiment sees two separate actors playing a murder victim and her husband, who stands accused of killing her.
It gets really interesting in that the members of the jury brought into the case have no idea that it's all been staged with actors – so they're under the impression that the case is real.

Over on a Twitter, a lot of viewers were expressing their confusion over the mash-up of reality and fiction:
#TheTrial I love the freak outs some viewers are having due to not knowing which bit is real and which bit is fake.

@Channel4 so do the non actors know it's set up or do the jury and barristers think it's a real case.. confused 🤔 #TheTrial

Confused already with the Trial. The jury know it's fictional right? Yet are talking like it's 💯% real? #thetrial

While others viewers thought the whole scenario wasn't the most realistic to base it all on:
Did the jurors make up their minds about the defendant too quickly? Some people watching at home definitely thought they were too judgmental:
And some couldn't help but notice that there were quite a lot of food breaks on the menu for the jurors:
We won't find out what decision the members of the jury come to until the final episode airs later this week – so it looks like we have a new TV addiction to maintain!
The Trial continues tomorrow at 9pm on Channel 4.
