Tributes to 'kind and funny' Bradford man who died after 'altercation' as man, 31, arrested

Tributes have been paid to a 'kind and funny' Bradford man who died following an incident outside a pub in Pontefract.

Mohammed Aerfan Qurban, 54, died following what police described as an 'altercation' outside Beastfair Vaults, Pontefract on Saturday September 28.

West Yorkshire Police officers were called at 9.55pm to reports that a man needed medical treatment. Mr Qurban was taken to hospital but died on October 4. Mr Quarban was reported to have been working as a doorman at the Beastfair Vaults.

Tributes have been left by friends and colleagues following the announcement of his death by the Janaza Announcements page on social media.

One friend wrote said Mr Quarban was "such a kind man at work - he was always smiling and funny."

A former colleague said Mr Quarban "had a wonderful sense of humour, a big heart and we all called him Al!"

Mr Quarban was known as Alfie among colleagues at the Pontefract pub.

One woman posted her own tribute, writing: "Rip Alfie a fantastic friend and was a pleasure to work with thank you for everything you did for us thinking of you and your family at this sad time."

West Yorkshire Police said Mr Quarban's death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the time of the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Specially trained officers are supporting the family,

Officers want to here from anyone who was in the pub at the time or Pontefract town centre that may have witnessed or have footage of the incident to come forward. Information can be given via 101, quoting log 1831 of 28 October.
