Tributes paid to former BBC Newcastle presenter described as 'kind, generous and so positive'

Tributes have been paid to much-loved broadcaster Peter Grant who has passed away after a short battle with cancer, it has been announced.

Mr Grant, who worked in broadcasting since the 1980s, presented on several stations across the North East and Yorkshire, including BBC Radio Newcastle, Magic FM, Durham FM and TFM. He also presented programmes for Made in Tyne and Wear as well as hosting travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast.

Over the years, he hosted several charity and business award ceremonies and was known for his humour and kindness. Tributes have been shared across social media by colleagues and listeners.

Simon Logan, BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees broadcaster, wrote on Facebook: "So very difficult to post that we have lost another radio legend and my great friend of 25 years, Peter Grant. Peter was a wonderful and talented person that was known for presenting radio and TV shows on many different platforms.

"R.I.P Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time. Thanks for the laughs and the great times Peter, everyone who knew you will miss you always xx."

Alife Joey, former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster, posted on Facebook: "Well this is sad. An old friend of mine from radioland has died. Peter Grant was great company & relentlessly positive. Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives.

"What an amazing outlook to have and to learn from. Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane & family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter."

Former Look North newsreader Colin Briggs wrote: "Dreadful, dreadful news. Great bloke, Peter. Thoroughly enjoyed working alongside him. Proper pro at everything he did."

Listener Debbie Paige Macpherson said Peter was "absolutely brilliant" on BBC Newcastle. She said: "I loved his shows very much I am so very sad to read this tonight. Thinking of you and all his family and friends. Sending lots of love."
