People flooded the comments with tributes following the news.

One person wrote: "A truly great man and servant of the living God.

"Hugh was Moderator of Presbytery when I was ordained in 1990. He went on to distinguished service as Moderator of the General Assembly.

"However, his greatest work was to pray diligently and consistently each evening for so many.

"Thank God for a gracious, kindly, able man, now at peace in the nearer presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ."

Another said: "Rev Wyllie was such a lovely man and Cadzow Parish Church was blessed to have him with us for a good number of years during his retirement.

"A true man of God, in whose arms he will rest in peace."

A third person added: "It was a privilege to have known such a true gentleman and servant of our God.

"Truly I tell you today you will be with Him in paradise."
