Tributes have poured in for a 'hero' West Midlands firefighter who sadly lost his brave cancer battle yesterday, July 5. West Midlands Fire Service confirmed Craig William's death earlier this morning.

Mr Williams tragically leaves behind a wife and a son. The fire service said its thoughts were with Mr Williams' loved ones at this "desperately sad time".

Writing a tribute online, firefighter Mick Powell said: "RIP. Once a hero, definitely always a hero. Sincerest condolences to his loved ones and colleagues."

Steve Vincent, previously a strategic leader in Fire, Rescue & LRFs, added: "RIP Craig. My thoughts are with Pete and family, friends & colleagues."

A third added: "In our thoughts and prayers." Announcing Mr Williams' tragic passing today, West Midlands Fire Service said: "With great sadness, we confirm the death of Firefighter Craig Williams.

"He lost his brave fight against cancer yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, son, family, and friends at this desperately sad time."
