Tributes to talented Derry teen who died following Claudy crash

A teenager who sadly died following a single-vehicle collision has been described as "full of talent" and the "most kind hearted person" in moving tributes.

Noah Karran was aged just 18 when he sadly lost his life following a collision in the Park area of Co Derry, close to Claudy, at around 9am on Thursday.

He was driving a silver Saab on the Learmount Road when the collision occurred, police said in a statement.

Talented with technology, Noah Karran had worked with local community radio station River Radio in Derry.

In a statement, a spokesperson for River Radio said: "Another life lost, another family devastated by a death on our roads.

"Noah was a young person full of talent with PCs and technology and someone who we at River Radio have worked with over the years. It’s so sad to hear this news."

His former school, St Patrick's and St Brigid's College in Claudy, said: "Our college community has been devastated to learn of the tragic death of former pupil, Noah Karran, who was only 18 years old. Noah died in a single vehicle car crash in Park yesterday morning.

"We will keep Noah’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers."

A heartbroken friend, meanwhile, described him as "the most kind hearted person I’ve ever known".

Foyle MLA Ciara Ferguson also paid tribute, saying: "“The community is in shock to learn of the death of Noah Karran following a road collision on the Learmount Road near Claudy.

"My immediate thoughts are with Noah’s family and friends as they come to terms with this tremendous loss.

"It’s absolutely devastating that another young person from our city has died on our roads."

She added: "I want to pay tribute to the emergency services who attended the scene this morning in very difficult circumstances."

The PSNI, meanwhile, is investigating the circumstances of the crash and is asking for any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Inspector Cherith Adair, from the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are investigating the circumstances of the crash and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage that could assist with our enquiries.
