We tried apple juice from Aldi, Asda and Tesco and it didn't go down well

Some prefer orange, some prefer apple. But juices are a supermarket staple that many people buy on their food shop.

There's a lot of well-known brands including Ocean Spray, Tropicana and Rubicon. But these big name brands can often come with the big price tag when compared with budget supermarket options.

The Liverpool ECHO conducted a taste test of supermarket apple juices to find out which was the best on flavour. Surprisingly, there wasn't a standout option in this line-up.

Although the supermarket options were incomparable when it came to price - Tropicana's apple juice is priced at £2.50 in Tesco, for example - they didn't impress and none of the options scored higher than a three.

Aldi - Alice Walker - 1/5 - 85p

The biggest offender in the line-up had to be the ALDI juice, which had a taste I can only describe as 'musty'. It smelled the same as it tasted, and I don't think I would buy it again, even if I did magically switch from team orange juice to team apple juice.

Asda - Courtney Eales - 2/5 - £1

I tried Asda apple juice and I found the taste to be overpowering in comparison to others I have tasted. It was far too sweet and I would not try again, I found it left a sour aftertaste in my mouth which was not enjoyable. I prefer a subtler crisp apple taste that isn't as sweet.

Tesco - Hannah Rees - 3/5 - £1.25

I'm a fan of apple juice, but I wasn't too keen on Tesco's carton. I thought the Tesco apple juice was perfectly drinkable - but it was extremely sweet. This was to the point that it tasted slightly on the artificial side. But at a cost of £1.25 for one litre, you can't argue.
