'I tried the Cambridge cafe voted one of the best in the county by our readers'
Located on the busy Mill Road lies a small Cambridge café that has become a big hit with locals and visitors in recent years. Cafe Blue Sage is a popular hotspot in the city.
The venue was recently voted by our readers as one of the best independent cafes in the county. Praise has often been given for its friendly atmosphere and wide ranging vegan and vegetarian options.
The café also has a focus on serving up Mediterranean-style brunch dishes and baked goods. I'd never been to Cafe Blue Safe before, but I was optemistic after its raving reviews from our readers.

The venue
I walked in at around 1pm and immediately, the first thing I noticed was just how small the venue was, with tables arranged near the windows and the counter. However, it felt incredibly cosy and warm with the smell of fresh coffee filling the cafe.
The walls were extremely bright and colourful, with shades of blue and yellow pokig out drom behind artwork and photo frames that stretched across the venue. Sitting behind me were wooden shelves that were stocked full of Cambridgeshire honey and local produce, which really added to the overall café vibe.
The cafe also had an outdoor seating area, which looked like a great spot to sit back and enjoy the sunshine with a drink and snack. Since it was -1C and incredibly frosty on the day of my visit, it was no surprise that it was completely deserted and I was not definitely brave enough to be the one to break that trend.
The food
When deciding what to order, I was desperate to warm-up as I was still freezing from the walk there, so I decided to go for a hot chocolate. I noticed that the counter was also stacked to the brim with slices of apple cake and it almost felt like a sign that I needed to try it.
My food arrived and I was presented with my slice of apple cake that looked more akin to a swiss roll. However, the unexpected shape certainly did not compromise on taste as it was soft, flavourful and a delicious treat to eat. My hot chocolate arrived and it was the perfect tempetature. There's nothing worse than taking rhe first sip and burning your mouth. Although there wasn't a huge amount of the chocolate flavour in the drink, I still found it refreshing, warming and not too sweet.
Verdict
I found the café to be an incredibly pleasant experience. With good food and a good atmosphere, it's easy to see why it is such a popular place to visit.
Cafe Blue Sage was voted as the third best independent café in our poll by our readers. And after taking a visit myself, I would say its third place is a very justified position. I would definitely recommend Cafe Blue Sage to anyone looking for a lunch stop in the city centre.
