We tried the cheapest prosecco from Tesco, Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and M&S, this 79p glass sparkles
Prosecco is a favourite tipple for many people throughout the year.
So it's not surprising that at Christmas time, sales of the stuff soar.
But with grocery shopping still costing so much, nobody wants to be shelling out more than they need to, especially if you're buying it in for guests and not even sampling the goods yourself.
That's why we decided to do some ever so festive research and compare the cheapest own brand bottles from all the main supermarkets.
Obviously it takes more than one person to sample seven bottles, as really the only way to compare them properly is to try them at the same time. Or at least that's what we told ourselves.

They're all the same size, at 75cl, or 750ml, and pretty much the same strength too, ranging from 10.5% volume to 11%.
The bottles are all very different, except for those from Aldi and Asda, which, with their similar striking yellow labels, you can hardly tell apart.
Most of them are extra dry, which is how we generally prefer our fizz, but there's a variety of different flavours at play.
Some like to shout about their origins - like Sainsbury's, which says its Taste The Difference prosecco is 'sourced from the only DOCG quality vineyards in the prized Conegliano area in north east Italy' and M&S, which says its Conte Priuli, is 'made exclusively for M&S in the north east of Italy from Glera grapes'.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who do care about that sort of detail, but for us it's purely about the taste - and the price of course.
Those two both make for a nice tipple and you wouldn't be disappointed with either on your dinner table this Christmas. They both cost the same too, with M&S charging £7.50 standard and Sainsbury's currently reduced to the same price with a Nectar card.
The Morrisons one - from 'the Best' range - is another 'made with grapes sourced from two of the best regions, Conegliano and Valdobbiadene'. It's a fine flavour and makes for a refreshing drink, but at £9.50 a bottle, or £8 with More Card, it's on the pricier side.
Tesco's Plaza Centro is perhaps the bubbliest of the bunch and its citrus fruit flavours pack a punch, and you can really taste the zesty lemon, pear and apple fruit flavours of Asda's £6 budget buy.
Lidl's doesn't go down quite as well as the others. It's crisp and fresh, but leaves a bit of an acidic after taste. It would be easy to blame that on the low price - with the Lidl Plus app it's reduced from the usual £5.45 to £4.75. It's also selling a magnum for £12.99, although that works out more expensive than two of the smaller bottles.
But there's one that not only matches Lidl's on price, but impresses more than any of them on taste and that's Aldi's Costellore Prosecco, which has also been reduced from £5.45 to £4.75, working out at just 79p per 125ml glass.
The fact I had to visit three stores to get my hands on a bottle of it says it all.
With 'aromas of peach and pear complemented by notes of apple', its soft and fruity flavour sets it apart. With seven bottles on the table, it was the only one we wanted seconds of and is the one we'll be stocking up on for the big day.
