We tried Edinburgh's new Mexican restaurant for couples' date night and had some thoughts
Trying to find the time to go out on a date night with fellow parent pals can be a real struggle.
Can you make the stars align with babysitters, schedules, the venue and budget now you are a working knackered parent?
So when the opportunity arises you want to ensure it is worthwhile heading out and leaving your bambinos behind with their grandparents.

With that in mind, we opted for CABO on Hanover Street which is a sort of Mexican restaurant with what I’d describe as a touch of Asian fusion.
Their Instagram is well curated and this is what drew us to the eatery for our date night with our fellow mum and dad buds.

The vibe in the restaurant is laid back but feels really upmarket, perfectly fitting in with the New Town surroundings.
After being sat down we were asked for our drinks orders while we perused the food options.
First off the bat, you could tell there were some teething problems with a few exotic items missing from the food menu like plantains or with the drinks such as the Mexican draught lager or bottled Modelo but nonetheless, there was plenty to choose from as a substitute.
The pints of Madri were spot on and the Pina Coladas later on were absolutely cracking - it is amazing how many people mess up a Pina, but that was not the case at CABO.
We went for a scattergun approach with the food and went for a bunch of different starters and mains.
First up was the Gochujang calamari with chorizo and Peruvian kimchi which was accompanied by crab toast, corn ribs with Argentinian chimichurri and crispy shallots as well as beef short rib croquettes.
For me the calamari was the top of the pile with the chorizo and squid pairing together perfectly but every single dish hit the mark with all of us impressed with the offering.
When it came to the mains the gals chose tacos with the miso mushroom, truffle mayo, Peruvian kimchi as well as the rocoto marinated pulled duck leg, chimichurri and crispy garlic the choices.
Both were delicious but they did feel a touch dainty and perhaps a bit light if choosing as a main to fill your stomach before a night out however this was countered with a bowl of chips.
The size of the portions was not in question however when it came to the pan seared Chilean bass with rocoto chilli bleurre blanc, samphire, chorizo and shoestring fries and the barbecoa duck breast with aji panca, duck leg croquette, carrot, anise Puree, adobo spiced quinoa.
Both were incredible with delicate care taken in designing each plate.
The bass went extremely well with the chorizo and chilli but the barbecoa duck was the dish that stole the show.
Everything just moulded together perfectly in your mouth with the result sending the taste buds into a tantalising tantra.

All in all our night was brilliant, the service was superb and CABO will go from strength to strength after recently opening.
Pricing is on the up market side of the scale but the food was definitely worth it and we will be coming back for another date night in the future.
