We tried the Glasgow sandwich spot wowing foodies with their '10/10' subs

An epic new sandwich spot that opened in the city centre has been wowing food fans with its mouth-watering handmade subs.

Sub126 launched on West Regent Street earlier this year, offering an uber-cool vibe with both sit-in and takeaway and fresh coffee and cakes to go with their signature subs.

Reviewers have been flocking there with some rating the subs a solid 10/10 and others saying they are "already obsessed" - but what can you expect when you go? We headed along to find out.

What's it like?

From the stripped-back exterior to the laidback vibes of the interior (including neon signage), this place effortlessly drips cool.

With a small but cosy seating arrangement, the place had a bit of a lunchtime queue already forming but we were able to order our subs fairly quickly and grab a table while we waited.

The counter offers a tantalising glimpse at some of the fresh ingredients ready to be used in their subs, while we found the staff both welcoming and friendly.

What did you get?

We opted for the already-famous number 3 – the porchetta, salsa verde, rocket, parmesan and garlic and herb butter – and the number one, which came with salami, prosciutto cotto, turkey, mozzarella, iceberg lettuce, herb mix and their sub sauce.

The subs themselves range from £7.50 to £9.50 but on the day we were there the staff were offering two for £12.

The number 3 was, well, stunning, it was easy to see why it's quickly become a firm favourite with diners already. The porchetta was moist and succulent with a nice salty flavour to the roast pork being cut through from the garlic and lemon and that zingy salsa verde, while all of the ingredients tasted fresh and flavoursome.

The bread itself didn't feel too heavy meaning the portion size was just the right level of filling.

The number 1 was also a cracker, with the fresh ingredients smothered in that delightful sub sauce, hats off to the guys for that one. We probably could happily have eaten another one or two of these they were that good.

What else can you get?

They do six subs in total; including the number 2, with spicy salami, cheddar, rocket, hot honey and sriracha butter; the number 4, with meatballs, mozzarella and basil; the number 5, with roast chicken, bacon, tomato, iceberg, mozzarella and sub sauce and the number 6, the Tuna sub mix.

While vegetarians can enjoy the number 7, with the roast aubergine, romesco and rocket, and the number 8, with the fresh mozzarella, beef tomato, rocket, balsamic glaze and pesto mayo.

As mentioned already there is fresh coffee (from £2.40) and plenty of cakes on offer too.

Overall Verdict?

We have a new lunch spot, it's as simple as that, between Sub126 (our new favourite) and Piece (our usual go-to), we aren't sure many other sandwich specialists that can challenge these two.

What do you think? Do you agree? Or do you have another spot that can rival our top two for sandwich dominance? Let us know in the comments below.
