I tried Nando's weird new seasoning flavour
When I first saw it, I thought it might've been a delayed April Fool's joke, but I was wrong.
This week, chicken giant Nando's launched a new menu. Along with some new food items, one particular limited-time addition caught my attention - a Fanta spice seasoning. Fanta, as in the soft drink Fanta, for clarification.
With curiosity getting the best of me, I just had to try out the Nandos x Fanta guest spice.

After being ushered to my table and handed the menu, straight away, it was there. With two chillis, on par with the medium, it would not be the hottest spice but warm enough. Ordering pretty much the go-to order: four chicken thighs, peri-salted chips and Garlic bread, I was not waiting long before it came.
Rather understandably, the coating was bright orange, with charred grill lines. Just for confirmation, the little stick flag was branded with the soft drink.
The taste was a weird mix between the usual solid-tasting chicken and a tangy taste of orange. While it was obvious, it wasn't overbearing, but at the same time just a weird sensation. After a few bites, the tang soon went and what was left over was just the heat.
One of the floor staff came across for the "Is everything alright with your meal?", but instead of a stereotypically awkward exchange, she was straight in with the, "What'd you think of the spice? Weird isn't it."
Weird is the key word - when I mentioned this new taste to the people at work, they either raised an eyebrow or asked me to repeat what I just said. While it was still nice - its Nando's, you know what you're getting - it's not Fanta-stic (sorry), and I'd opt for my go to medium next time.
