I tried a Pizza Express Too Good To Go Bag and did not get what I expected
Over the years I have ordered a few Too Good To Go bags, ranging from mystery bags from my local cafe or corner shop to big names like Greggs or Costa. However, I have never had a bag from Pizza Express before, usually because these are only available later on after the restaurant has closed.
After having a look on the app for deals near me, I spotted there was still a Pizza Express bag available and the collection time was 9.30pm to 9.45pm, which was an hour earlier than the usual 10.30pm to 10.45pm time that appeared. Within a few moments, I had reserved my bag for £4.95, which was supposed to contain either one main course or three starters/desserts.
The total value of the bag was supposed to be at least £14.85, so I was quite happy that no matter what I would practically be getting three times my money's worth. Whilst part of me was hoping for a full pizza or portion of pasta, another part of me was seriously craving the chain's iconic doughballs so I was really excited to see what I got.

After getting to the restaurant I could see a couple of bags on the table ready, and after speaking to a member of staff she returned with my mystery bag. It felt relatively light and after I had a glimpse inside I could see three small boxes, so I knew that it was definitely not a pizza and would be a combination of starters and/or puddings.
One thing I did think was a bit odd was that the bag was stone cold, which didn't fill me with confidence. After I got home I emptied out the bag and opened the first box.
Inside was a piece of chocolate fudge cake, which looked mouth-wateringly good, and after having a search online I found a photo of the dessert menu which showed the price was once £5.95, but I'm not sure how up-to-date this menu was. I opened another box and was greeted by a second piece of chocolate fudge cake, but no worries as I thought at least now my partner and I could have a slice each.
I opened the third box and it was also not pizza or pasta. Fortunately, it also wasn't a piece of cake, it was a chocolate brownie. Usually, this brownie costs £6.35, but it would come with vanilla ice cream, a strawberry and fresh mint in the restaurant.
Overall the menu prices of the items suggested a value of around £18.25, which made my bag a bargain as I spent less than £5. The fact that I had three puddings also explained why the bag was cold.
Although I was in the mood for something savoury I do still have a sweet tooth so these puddings were definitely not wasted, and the brownie was incredible, whilst the cake was also really good. Even thought it was a day old the puddings were so delicious and clearly high quality, which I had expected them to be with the original prices.
The main thing with a Too Good To Go bag is you can't pick your items, so it really is luck of the draw when it comes to what you get, and I wouldn't expect any two bags to be the same. I would definitely order a bag again, although this time fingers crossed for some pizza.
