I tried popular Korean snacks and found a new favourite for 49p
Ahead of Lunar New Year on Wednesday, January 29, I decided to head down to Seoul Plaza in the city centre to try some popular Korean snacks and see which ones I liked. Some of these recommendations came from word of mouth, or via TikTok, and some of them just looked appealing to me and I wanted to give them a go.
I recently went to Seoul Plaza to try their fantastic yakisoba noodles, so it was exciting to also pick up some Korean snacks because all of these seemed like they were going to be absolutely delicious. There was one that stood out to me above all the others, but each snack was so unique in flavour that it was hard to pick a favourite. Another great thing was that all of the snacks together came to £7.96, so it was a really affordable haul.

Bubble tea milk candy - £1.60
This wasn't a particularly strong start - while I really liked the flavour of the candies themselves, I found them to be quite tough to chew. It was reminiscent of an old toffee that is really hard on your teeth, and the texture wasn't very appealing. However, the taste itself was fine, and it does do what it says on the tin in terms of tasting like bubble tea.

Big roll seaweed - 49p
This one was my absolute favourite by far - I've never had seaweed in this format before, but the flavouring was delicious, along with the satisfying crunch as well. It was the cheapest of all the items and definitely the best, in my opinion. I will have to go back down and buy them in bulk because I've got a craving for them now.

Super Mario candy - £1.29
This one was more of a toy than a candy - there were a few different flavoured jelly beans in the tube which were nice enough, the real treat came in the top half of the container which became a green stamp in the shape of the iconic question mark box from the beloved video game franchise. For the price I think this is quite good because even though there aren't many sweets, its a pleasing desk trinket.

Strawberry Pocky - £1.29
I've had pocky before but not the strawberry flavour. I've always been quite a fan, especially the original chocolate flavour, but I've also tried the cookies and cream one along with the dark chocolate one . This outing was strawberry and it reminded me greatly of the milky ice lollies you could get from the newsagents as a kid. Either that or those pink chocolate mice you find sometimes in the sweet shop. That, coupled with the savoury flavour of the stick was very nice indeed.

Bubble milk tea mochi - £1.89
Mochi is one snack that I've seen on TikTok countless times. I've had it before as well and always liked the taste and texture, but I'd not tried the bubble tea one until now. The inside, which is red bean, was flavoured to taste like tea, and while it isn't for everybody, I actually really enjoyed it. It was filling and satisfying to eat, and I think I'd buy it again if I see it on shelves elsewhere.

Mogu Mogu strawberry drink - £1.09
Mogu Mogu is another more 'mainstream' product that people will have seen in supermarkets, and I really like these drinks. The fact that they have gelatine inside may be off-putting to some, but the strawberry one had a sweet and refreshing flavour that you can't fault. The only flaw I would say is that it tastes more artificial than other drinks, but it's a small price to pay for a fun and unique beverage.
