We tried the new Simpsons Cafe in Belfast and it was a bit D'oh!

With the news that the Primark Cafe in Belfast was to rebrand from Disney to The Simpsons theme, I decided that it was finally time to try it.

Having grown up as a huge fan of the show, my mouth was drooling at the various photos on social media of those infamous pink donuts, that when I was in town with friends last weekend, I suggested that we nip in and try it.

Arriving at lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon probably wasn't our best idea and when I went to place my order of a toastie and a milkshake, we were informed that we would be waiting around an hour and decided to leave.

Not one to be beaten and given the fact that it is just a stone's throw from our office, I decided to give it another go mid-week when it was much quieter.

Taking a seat, the quirky decor immediately stands out but that is probably the highlight of the cafe as when I looked at the prices on the menu, it left me clutching my wallet tighter than Mr Burns clutches his fortune.

Once I settled on what I wanted, I went to the till and ordered a ham and cheese toastie (£5.50) and a Doughnut Shake (£5.95).

Thankfully, this time I wasn't informed that there would be a long wait and after about 10 to 15 minutes my milkshake arrived followed by my toastie.

One of the first things I noticed was that the food was served on paper plates, which made it feel more like Millhouse's birthday party rather than a cafe on the city's main shopping thoroughfare.

While the milkshake looked Instagram-worthy with white chocolate drizzled around the inside of the cup, it tasted a bit basic and left me feeling short-changed.

Tucking into the toastie, it was certainly nothing to write home about either and tasted quite similar to something you could have picked up in Greggs for half the price.

Sadly, the Greggs comparison doesn't end there as the semi-stale doughnut on top of the milkshake could have probably been picked up there too for a fraction of the price.

All in all, while it is a great novelty and the social media photos look fantastic, I wouldn't be rushing back.
