I tried Six by Nico x Sole Club's Chippie Club menu and it's a combo Glaswegians will love

Fine dining on a budget is something that will appeal to many and combining it with Glasgow's love of all things battered - pizza, mars bars and more - was always going to entice diners - introducing Six by Nico and Sole Club's Chippie Club.

You may have seen videos of the big pink fridge in a seemingly basic fish and chip shop takeaway, only, it's not actually a fridge. If you have no idea what we're talking about, then we encourage you to take a walk behind the door and see where it takes you.

So doing just that - and taking you with us - we arrived at Sole Club; a speakeasy-style fish restaurant in the heart of Finnieston.

Should you get to try their new Chippie Club menu as part of their collaboration with Six By Nico, expect to be blown away as soon as you walk behind the fridge.

What's on the menu and how much does it cost?

The Chippie Club promises a nostalgic night full of "bold and interesting flavours" - the menu combines everything you know and love about a chippie - but with a Nico twist. The Chippie Club pays homage to their origins with the iconic Six by Nico 'Chippie' Tasting Menu.

There are six courses which cost just £35pp. If you want the wine pairings, it's an extra £25pp. So if you are looking for fine dining without the hefty price tag, it really isn't one to miss off your Glasgow 'must visit' food list. And I don't know about you, but our list keeps on growing - and with this latest menu, it's not hard to sea (sorry I had to) why it's so popular.

As our bank accounts all know, having a fine-dining experience is rarely budget-friendly, and nowadays eating out or getting a takeaway can cost a fair bit too - so if you want to dip your toes into a fun and unique concept away from your usual, this dining experience is one not to miss.

Six courses may seem like nothing and could be the reason many turn their noses up at such an experience, but when it came to the last course, some ice cream and pie remained - buttons had to be undone - and I wasn't the only one leaving feeling stuffed.

The filling and delicious dining event is something every Glaswegian - and visiting guests - should try. From a chip on a stick to the Smoky Sausage Supper, I was honestly amazed by every dish. The flavours were not overwhelming and the portions were just right.

Although admittedly when it came to course three - the 'Ultimate Chip & Cheese' - I could have drank the sauce...so light, so cheesy, so smooth.

The confit potato, smoked cheddar and potato chips were heaven on a plate. Another stand out dish was the Scotch egg which was bursting with flavour in every bite. This arrives in the second round alongside a wine from the Languedoc region of Southern France. Disclaimer, I'm not a wine person, but it went down very smoothly. Picpoul de Pinet AOC Perdu, anyone?

If you want to walk down memory lane for just a while longer, get ready for the Cheeky Vimto drink, which yes you guessed it, tastes just like the iconic drink. Savoury dishes aside, ending with the lightest of ice creams and the most delicious cherry pie, the night was sadly over for me and my taste buds.

So yes, I would return, no question about it - and no matter the concept, I don't think anyone will be disappointed. The relaxing atmosphere is a much-needed change to being rushed out the door and is a perfect experience if you're out with friends, family or having date-night. The spot seats only 20 people, boasting an intimate, trendy atmosphere - no harsh lights, no loud music and no loud chatter.

Talking about Sole Club and the brains behind the dishes you don't want to miss, Six company founder and owner of Sole Club, Nico Simeone said: "When we first launched Sole Club, we knew we wanted to test and experiment with new menus, concepts, and dishes, especially as a seafood-focused restaurant was a new venture for us.

I can’t wait for our customers to experience our new bold menu options."
