I tried Tavistock's tasty tapas restaurant and was very impressed by the bill
A trendy Tavistock restaurant is a perfect place to try if you love tasty tapas. The welcoming venue is tucked away just off the main beat of a popular town.
The friendly venue serves Spanish-inspired small plates and international cuisine flavour infusions. The Annex in Tavistock is a sun trap on a fine day - even in winter - with its conservatory-style panels enhancing the continental vibe inside the restaurant.
When I walked into The Annex with a companion (on Wednesday November 13) we were immediately greeted warmly by the team. It was very busy inside so we were lucky to get a table for two - the venue does recommend booking in advance.

We sat down inside and I was impressed by the comfortable chairs and colourful interior. I noticed unusual paintings of birds on the walls that added to the international ambience of the restaurant.
The tapas board menu offers three small plates for £15 and there were heaps to choose from. We chose six tapas from that menu between the two of us - meatballs, harissa shredded lamb, fried whitebait, salt and pepper squid, beetroot falafel and pan roasted vegetables.
There is another small plates menu also, with even more tasty dishes to choose from, so you can really mix it up and try various things. There’s something to suit everyone on the menu, including vegetarian, gluten free and plant based choices.
I thought £30 for six small plates was a very reasonable amount to pay for such a lovely lunch - and it was just the right amount for two of us sharing. What an array of varying tastes, it’s difficult to pin point a favourite, but I loved the salt and pepper squid bites.
My companion thought the harissa shredded lamb and houmous was delicious, but also loved the beef and pork meatballs tapas. This dish was Spanish-style meatballs flavoured with a garlic and herb sauce.
There’s outdoor seating too at the Annex, but wherever you’re seated you’ll find it a really nice atmosphere. The food was so tasty and warming and the service was very pleasant and helpful.
The Annex is a few minutes walk from West Street in Tavistock, it’s just off of Drake Road at the top of the town. This gives it a hidden away feeling, but the secret is definitely out as when I visited it was full up - and I’m not surprised as it’s a really relaxing venue with great tasting food.
As well as lunch, The Annex serves breakfasts and dinner too. From American pancakes, bacon and sugar waffles in the morning, to the tasty tapas and decadent desserts for lunch or dinner. It is advisable to book a table in advance as it's a favourite place to dine in the area.
The Tavistock restaurant has been rated as "all round fabulous" on Tripadvisor with many happy customers praising its fair prices. It’s often in the top spot on Tripadvisor for restaurants in the town - and I can see why.
