High School Football Game Delayed as Deer Family Doe-s Not Want to Leave Field

The referee of a high school football game in Cheney, Washington, had to call for time out on September 1 as a doe and two fawns ran onto the field.

Footage recorded by Christi Archibek shows the trio of deer during their prolonged appearance during the third quarter of Cheney High’s first freshman game of the season.

Archibek said that referees and coaches joined forces in trying to “shoo” the doe and the one fawn off the field, but that the mother wouldn’t leave her other young.

“They ended up finally charging down the center of the football field to reunite,” she said.

There wasn’t much else for the home crowd to get excited about, with the game finishing 32-0 to the visiting Gonzaga Prep Bullpups. Credit: Christi Archibek via Storyful
