Tropical Storm Karen Brings Rain, Wind to US Virgin Islands

Rain and wind lashed the US Virgin Islands as Tropical Storm Karen moved through the area on Tuesday, September 24, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The NWS said Karen brought “heavy rain” and “strong thunderstorms” to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

The islands did not sustain significant damage, but there were “isolated” power outages and schools remained closed on Wednesday, local media reported.

This video, taken on Tuesday, shows trees blowing in the wind as it rains in Red Hook, a town on Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

The weather service said rain and flash flooding were expected to continue in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

As of 5 am on Wednesday, Tropical Storm Karen was about 155 miles north-northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moving at 14 mph with maximum winds of 45 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. Credit: Patrick Cuty via Storyful
