True Blood star Anna Paquin has responded to the news that the show is being rebooted.

Earlier this week, TVLine reported that the HBO vampire drama – which ran between 2008 and 2014 – will be restarted, this time in the hands of Riverdale boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and NOS4A2 creator Jami O'Brien.

The showrunner of the original series, Alan Ball, is also expected to be on board as an executive producer.

Anna played the lead character of Sookie Stackhouse, although she said on social media that news of a reboot was completely new to her.

"Well, this is the first I'm hearing about this," she tweeted.

Anna followed up the tweet with a clarification that she wasn't "mad" but rather addressing a common question people had on the back of TVLine's story.

"Not mad, just answering the question that has inundated my feed," she wrote.

No actors have been attached to the reboot yet, and HBO has declined to comment so far.

Last year, Anna reflected on True Blood, describing the show as "extraordinary and amazing" while adding that Sookie was "in a lot of ways a very stereotypical female heroine".

"That show was one of the greatest professional experiences of my entire life and I'm very grateful, but as far as pushing a feminist agenda? Not so much," she told Digital Spy.

True Blood is available to stream now on NOW TV.
