Dyson Is Selling a Toy Vacuum for Kids That Actually Works

When your mini-me pretends to get the house in order (which they really like to do, even though they're nowhere to be found when it's actual clean-up time), make sure his arsenal is stocked with this state-of-the-art vacuum toy.

Casdon's Dyson Ball Vacuum toy is an uncanny replica of a real Dyson vacuum. As kids push it around, colorful balls swirl around the clear, cylindrical body, just like a cyclone of dust would in a real vacuum. It swivels on a ball the way the real thing does, too, and it makes realistic sounds.

But the neatest trick is that it has some real suction power, and it can pick up small pieces of paper or small poly beads that can be removed from a dustbin in the back. (Now they can experience what it's like to fish the teeniest toy part out of the rest of the "dirt," like you do with all their Lego pieces.)

The toy, which is on sale at Amazon and backordered at Walmart, is recommended for kids between the ages of 3 and 9. And apparently, looking at the reviews on Amazon, kids (and parents!) are loving it. "My son loves this vacuum! He loves to help clean, and his favorite is the vacuum, but [mine is] too big for him. This one looks real enough that he'll use it instead of the big one," one person wrote.

FYI: It takes a lot of battery power — it needs four C batteries — so make sure you stock up before your kid is ready to play (after tests from the Good Housekeeping Institute, the most-heard parent complaint was that the toy died quickly). But once those batteries are popped in, you can sit on your couch, kick your feet up, and let them clean up after you for a change.
